Sorry- this is a bit longer than I expected! I'll try to chop out some of the lagging parts later

It was a long drive from your flat to Newt's high school, but instead of being happy the whole drive he was beyond nervous. You drove for the first part, and then you switched and he drove for the last hour. His hands were shaking on the steering wheel and he constantly switched the radio stations. It was slightly chilly in the car, yet there were beads of sweat on the back of Newt's neck.

"Newt, are you sick? We can stop at a pharmacy and pick up some medicine if you are. I thought you would be excited to see all of your old high school friends again?"

"I am," he replied, trying to sound convincing. "I am excited, I just hope that they can keep their hands off of my girlfriend." He forces out a laugh and you follow, but it is obvious that there is more he isn't telling you.

You put a hand on the leg of his trousers and trace words on his thigh. They started out as nonsense, or signs you saw, but as you grew closer to his high school and his leg bounced faster, you switched just to tracing I love you over and over again. Newt had never been this nervous over anything, probably not even when he had asked you on your first date.

When Newt pulled into the parking lot of his high school, a tall stone building that looked something like a castle out of a fairytale, he was near a mental breakdown. He couldn't stop running his hands through his hair, fixing the buttons on his jacket, and making sure he had his wallet and his phone. After sitting for five minutes watching him, you grabbed his chin and pulled it towards you, kissing him gently.

"Newt, you will be fine. I'm sure all of your friends have missed you something awful, how could they not. I'll be right by your side the entire time. You can show me around all the halls and classrooms if you don't like the crowd. This place is like a castle- I'd love to see more of it," you reassured him, squeezing his hand.

The two of you got out of the car and Newt straightened his jacket once again. "You look unbelievably handsome love. Stop worrying. Let's go."

Newt led you by the arm through the large wooden double doors, and it felt like he was a prince leading you into his own kingdom, except for the fact that your prince was shaking harder than a baby's rattle. Just inside the doors someone recognized Newt, and they called him over. He seemed hesitant at first, but you pulled him with you as you went to meet his friend.

At first, the man and his other friends seemed nice. They introduced themselves, and then started to talk about the school musical that they were in with Newt in year ten. While the man's story was interesting, you soon got distracted by the stained glass in the entry hall of the school. You were so distracted that you almost missed the first insult that flew from the man's lips.

"Newt, you got your first kiss during that play, right? Remember, because the girl thought you were her boyfriend and then as soon as she saw your face she gagged and then told her real boyfriend? Remember? Cause then he went and beat you up outside, and you didn't come to school for three days. That was hilarious!"

In any other situation you would have jumped to Newt's defense, but he squeezed your hand and kept his jaw clenched tight, so you did the same. You thought that after the man had gotten his jab out he would leave Newt alone, but he kept going. The crowd urged him on, and the bleached blonde attached to his hip laughed nasally no matter what he said. Your nerves had nearly reached their peak and you were about to speak your mind when the final insult tumbled from the man's mouth.

"Yeah, I'm surprised that you ended up with this chick. She's not up to my standards of course, but still, she's got something. Does she know you were a virgin when you graduated? Geez, looking like that you probably still are. You were always too nervous to go to the hole when we did every Friday night, always saying something about marriage or some other sh*t. You've got no game man, you are hardly a man at all. You're gonna die a virgin, aren't you," he laughed.

Newt excused himself to the bathroom and ran off through the crowd. The man had earned a round of laughter from his friends, but you had lost all words to defend yourself or Newt. You left the group of people and asked someone where the bathrooms were. They pointed you down a hallway and you ran to catch up with Newt. His head turned the corner past the bathrooms, and you found him in an empty classroom, looking down on an open courtyard.

"Newt," you started. He looked back startled, but didn't say anything. In the light coming from the window, you could see tears running down his face. You went to his side slowly and took his large hand in your smaller one.

For a few minutes, you didn't say a word to each other. You didn't ask any questions, and he made no effort to explain. You had to break the silence somehow, but you had no idea how.

"Newt... why didn't you tell me? We didn't have to come, I never would have insisted on it if I knew you didn't want to come."

"Well, like they said, I'm hardly a man at all. Wouldn't want to seem any weaker," he choked out, turning to face you. His face was soaked with tears, so you moved to wipe them away with your thumbs.

"Newt- I don't even know what to say about them. They aren't even worth words. All he said was just to boost his position with the rest of them. Of course he wouldn't tell the truth about someone as amazing as you cause it would only make him look bad. So don't believe for a second that anything he said is true," you pleaded staring into Newt's eyes.

"Well," he gulped. "One thing he said is true. I was a virgin when I graduated, and I still am. I always just thought I would rather wait until I got married instead of giving myself to anyone. And I also just thought that my body was nothing special, so if someone married me they must want me for me, not just for my body. And the fact that I didn't have a strong relationship until you just confirms that my body isn't anything special. I just hoped that whoever I married would like me enough that they wouldn't leave me when they were disappointed with what was really there, or I guess what wasn't there. I'm sorry I didn't tell you."

Newt stared at the floor, refusing to meet your gaze. "You are an idiot, you know that right?" you asked. "W-what?" Newt replied, hurt evident on his face.

"You already told me that. On the day you asked me about my ring, we talked about it. How we were both virgins, and wanted to wait. You already told me that Newt, and I thought it was one of the sexiest things you have ever said or decided to do. You were sick and drugged up on cough syrup, but I thought you remembered that."

Newt's eyes were wide and his mouth opened in shock.

"And I promised you that I would never be disappointed with what was there. You are the only one I ever plan on being with, so I don't know why you're so worried."

Still, Newt had no reaction. He swallowed, and then stepped closer taking both of your hands in his.

"Are you- are you being serious Y/N?" he asked, trying not to let hope overtake him.

"Yes, you idiot. We can talk about it all you want when we're in the car, but I don't really want to be here anymore. There's a fundraiser going on next month- you can show me around then. Right now I'm just thinking of getting takeout and having a movie night. Also, some revenge is in order. Sound alright?" Newt nodded in response and kissed you deeply. He wasn't sure what your plan was, but he trusted you with everything he had.

You took Newt's hand and led him out of the classroom and down to the entry hall, where the group of friends were still talking.

"Well well, it's-" the man began to say, but you interrupted him.

"It's been nice to meet you all, but I've got to take Newt home. We've got something scheduled- something to take care of. You know, the kind of thing that takes daily maintenance." With that you turned and began to kiss Newt desperately, nearly turning it into a makeout session. He smiled into your kiss when he caught on to the idea. You pushed him towards the door still kissing him, and Newt waved over your shoulder at the semi-circle of people with similar shocked expressions on their faces.
