Hermione was startled awake but a horrible screaming noise. The beds shook and books fell from their perches around the cabin. The entire Athena cabin was pulling out weapons and flying out of bed, alert and ready to fight. Annabeth was directing the smaller kids to a sheltered area just as the windows broke. Glass shards flew through the air, mercilessly cutting obstacles. Hermione yelled as one particularly large one stuck itself in her thigh. A boy tackled her to the ground as another window shattered. Malcolm, she realized, had just saved her life as the frame of the window decimated the bed she had just been sitting on. The ground stopped shaking but the noise continued. It was worse than a howler! Demigods around clutched their ears desperately trying to block out the shrieking. Then just as suddenly as it started the noise ceased and silence descended on the cabin.
"Outside everyone!" Annabeth commanded. "Watch for the glass!"
Hermione was herded outside in her pajamas. Annabeth was sporting a unbuckled armored breastplate with pajamas pants. Hermione stumbled around confused as bleary-eyed people streamed out from their cabins on to the moist grass.
Hermione was shoved aside, quite rudely by a boy who raced to Annabeth. He yelled something about Percy bleeding. Annabeth's calm stature was gone and she yelled at Malcolm to take charge before sprinting away.
"Hey, you're hurt." said a blond guy who she had seen walking to the Apollo cabin. "Let me help. I'm Austin."
Austin procured a roll of bandage from his sack and set to work on her thigh. Hermione was relieved when he finished and proclaimed that she would be fine with a little rest. She nodded gratefully. Her head pounded and the noise of all the campers was not helping. She could see cabins were all broken. Everyone milled around, calling out in search of people.
"Everyone to the dining pavilion!" a large voice boomed over the voices of the muddle of demigods.
The crowd changed direction and Hermione quickly fell behind, scanning for Harry or Ron. What if something happened to them? Eventually, she reached the pavilion, spotting them at a table. She let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. She walked over, and plopped down across from them.
"Do you know what happened?" she questioned, not meeting Ron's eyes.
"Something about Percy and the new girl being attacked. They were in the infirmary, last I saw." Ron said, looking to Harry.
"Silence, please!" Chiron boomed from the front. "All will be explained in a moment."
Percy stood beside Chiron. He fiddled with a pen as he studied the groups of teens. Chiron nodded to him.
"So many of you are confused. Maybe even scared. You deserve an explanation of all this commotion." Percy started. "I was on the beach this morning and was attacked by a cloaked person."
Whispers erupted around the pavilion as people speculated who.
"Guys!" Percy yelled.
Everyone shut up and turned back to him.
"The person did injure Nyssa, the new demigod. She is fine and in fact, right here." he explained, gesturing to her.
Nyssa waved, shyly.
"We are fine. The person however did manage to escape but we are investigating who they were and what they wanted."Percy continued.
"What caused the earthquake and the screaming?" someone yelled from the Demeter cabin table.
"Good question, Katie. I caused the earthquake. There is nothing to worry about it is under control."
"Who caused the screaming, Percy?" Katie asked again. "We have a right to know."
