"I cannot believe you, Kori," I muttered. Kori rolled her eyes at me.
"So I've heard," she replied, shovelling a spoonful of bacon into her mouth.
"You told someone! Do you have any idea what this could mean?"
"I told Princess Piper. It's not that big a deal. I can see by the way that you look at her that you're actually glad you're not keeping any secrets from her anymore." Yeah, right. Whatever. Okay... maybe a little.
"That's beside the point. You're putting yourself at risk, me and my family at risk, even Princess Piper at risk because she'd get into trouble for not telling the ministry," I reminded her.
"Only if someone were to find out."
"And by telling more people, you're increasing that chance tremendously!" I argued.
"It was one person! My best - and only - friend, besides you of course. And you like her! Admit it: you're glad she knows."

I was saved from replying as Piper sat down on the bench next to Kori. She grabbed an apple and bit into it.
"How are you two this morning then?" she asked cheerfully. Piper was always so cheerful. She never let anything faze her, even finding out that her friend's father was the most evil dark wizard in history, only the night before. It was one of the things I loved about her.

"I'm great, thank you," Kori replied.
"Same here," I added. Piper smiled.
"Do you fancy going for a picnic outside at lunch time?" she asked.
"Sure!" Kori exclaimed.
"We'd love to!"
"Great! I'll meet you in the entrance hall at the beginning of lunchtime. See you there!"

With that, Princess Piper got up and left. As she walked past the Ravenclaw table, she plucked a slice of toast out of Princess Annabeth's hand. Annabeth spun around, saw Piper and grinned. Then she grabbed a spoon and poked her playfully in the stomach. Piper laughed and continued towards the door, casually munching on Princess Annabeth's toast.

Kori smirked, watching the pair as I was. "It makes you question if they really were raised in a palace," she joked.

Someone cleared their throat behind me. I spun around to see no other than His-Most-Esteemed-Royal-Highness Prince Jason. "Do you want something?" I asked.
"Leave my girlfriend alone. Or else."
"Jason, relax," Prince Percy, who was standing behind him, muttered. "Piper is perfectly capable of defending her own rights. He'd be running around pretending to be a donkey before Piper'd let him do anything."
"Is that a threat?" Draco challenged.
"No. A fact. Piper is more than you think."
"You stupid Gryffindors and your stupid threats. Don't you get it? You were sorted into opposite houses! A Gryffindor can't date a Slytherin! There are house rivalries. Princess Piper is one of us. Deal with it."
"Draco, calm down," Kori ordered.
"No!" I replied, standing up. "Piper can do what she likes! She doesn't need you watching over her, dictating everything she does!"

Kori cleared her throat. "Hypocrite," she murmured just loud enough for me to hear.
"Not right now," I muttered to her. She rolled her eyes.

"Just leave her alone! I've seen the way you look at her, don't get any ideas! I'm serious! It will end badly," Jason pleaded.
"What's going on over here?" a voice interrupted. I turned around and saw Annabeth standing with her arms folded. The look on her face was murderous.
"Nothing, Wise Girl," Percy said quickly.
"Are you talking about Piper?" she asked suspiciously.
"Maybe slightly..." Percy said it like it was more of a question than an answer.

Annabeth rolled her eyes. "Boys, Piper is a big girl. She can make her own decisions. Where's Sadie? Carter's been looking for her for ages." And just like that, Piper was forgotten. Well, I didn't forget her - most of my time was spent thinking about her - but you get the gist.
"We'll go and look for her in Gryffindor Tower," Jason decided. "I bet she's plotting with Ginny."
"Plotting what?" Kori asked.
"A prank or something. I try not to ask," Jason replied.

"Boys, go," Princess Annabeth ordered. Percy looked almost petrified.
"Why are you scared of your girlfriend?" Kori asked. I guess she'd never learnt tact.
Percy flinched. "I eeerm, kinda made someone's potion explode in class. Annabeth yelled at me."
Annabeth rolled her eyes. "You deserved it. You need to grow up at some point in your life."
"I did that sort of thing often. Especially when we had Snape and he was completely oblivious to anything I did wrong, but was there to punish the Gryffindor's every slight mistake," I announced. "Who's potion?"
"Potter's," he said sheepishly. I raised my hand silently in a request for a world-renowned symbol of respect: a high five. He happily obliged.
"Thank you, boys. We really don't need the two of you ganging up on Potter," Annabeth said.
"Aren't you supposed to have a house rivalry or something?" Kori pointed out.
"He's alright, for a Gryffindor," I muttered.
"And I'm not prejudice, so he's alright too," Percy pointed out.
"Not prejudice?" Jason demanded.
"Fine, I generally dislike beings that want to kill me before I have time to actually get to know them," Percy admitted. "Happy now?"
"Ecstatic."
"Could you please go and find Sadie now? Soon Carter's going to be trying to climb onto the roof in order to find her," Annabeth pleaded.
"How would that help?" Percy asked.
"High vantage point... you know what? It doesn't matter. Just go!"

Prince Percy pecked her on the forehead and he and Prince Jason headed off to Gryffindor Tower. To my surprise, Annabeth didn't go anywhere. In fact, she sat down.

"You know you're not supposed to sit at the wrong tables, right?" I asked her, remembering that she was still in her first week at Hogwarts.
"I had assumed so," she replied. "But someone will have to physically drag me off before I'm going anywhere, and I can guarantee that they'll have a hard time of that." I raised an eyebrow at her. I wasn't used to rebellious Ravenclaws. "Look, I understand that you like Piper, but seriously, someone will get hurt if you try anything. Most likely you. Even if it isn't Jason trying to rip you to pieces, her siblings will be after you, Jason's sister and all her anti-boy friends won't be pleased, pretty much all our friends from America will have something to say about it... and they're not the sort of people you'd want to get mad. Also, her mum will actually make your life very miserable. You don't want to draw her attention towards your life. I know from experience. Do you see where I'm going with this?"

"But you said earlier-" I protested.
"I respect that, but you'll be the one to face the consequences. If she makes a move, fine, but if you do..." Annabeth trailed off, leaving me to imagine what could happen.
I nodded. "I understand that you're trying to help, but-"
"Listen to me. You'd be wise to," she said, then smirked.
"What's so funny?"
"Never mind," she said quickly, "just please, think this through."
"Fine," I muttered miserably. Annabeth, apparently satisfied, stood up and patted my shoulder. Then, she walked out the room.
