As the semester kept going, the night of the Sweetheart Dance arrived. To no surprise, I didn't have a date, and I had mixed feelings on going. Vi told me she was planning on staying home, and I was more than welcome to binge Twilight with her if I decided not to go. Right now, I was going through my dresses when my phone went off. A text from Davis.

'Need help. Can you come over?'

'Sure. Be there in a few.' I replied before I went to his house.

"Hey, Sarah." He says as soon as I enter his room. He was dressed in a nice suit.

"So, this is what your lair looks like." I say, "I expected more candelabras and flowy curtains. At least you have a Twilight poster."

"Very funny." Davis replies, laughing. "So... how do I look?"

"Not that I want to feed your already rapidly growing ego, but you look... really nice."

"You're so sweet." Davis laughs, and I gave a bit of a nervous laugh in response which he didn't seem to catch. I then looked around and noticed he had a bunch of kaleidoscopes on the shelf above his bed.

"You collect kaleidoscopes?" I ask.

"Yeah, I guess." Davis replies, "My mom gets me one every time we move."

"Wow. I didn't realize you moved so much."

"Yeah, I know it's weird, but it makes my mom happy, so... and actually, I- I kind of like them, too. They're pretty much the only things I really have from all the places I've lived."

"I don't think they're weird at all. I like them. They're cool."

"Thanks."

There was a bit of a short pause before the silence started to get awkward.

"So..." I say, breaking the silence, "You got your dancing shoes on?"

"I don't know about that one." Davis replies, "That's actually kind of why I asked for your help."

"Well, then allow me to help, my fledgling." I respond in my vampire voice. "I can teach you the ways of the slow dance."

"What makes you think that I-" Davis starts, but I just give him a knowing look before he approaches me. "Okay, I don't know how to slow dance."

"Alright. I'm personally a little old-fashioned when it comes to this, but I'll teach you the way that pretty much everyone else is going to do it." I say. "So, you will put your hands here," I add, taking his hands and putting them around my waist.

"Okay." Davis says.

"And the girl will put her hands here." I add, putting my hands on his shoulders. "Then you rock back and forth, maybe start to spin." I add as we do so.

"Alright." Davis says, looking down.

"And you can look at the girl." I add jokingly.

"Yeah. Right." Davis says as we both start to laugh. "Am I doing it right?" He asks.

"Yeah." I respond.

"How do you do it?" He asks.

"Hm?"

"You said you were old-fashioned. How do you do it?"

"Oh, right. It's just a slight change." I say. "You just do this." I add, taking his left hand in my right and holding it out. "And if you really want to impress a girl, you could try spinning her." We then tried a spin, which we both failed at before going back to a normal slow dance.

"Guess I should work on that." Davis says.

"Don't worry. I'm bad at it, too." I respond.

We continued to dance in silence until we heard a car horn honking.

"Davis, your girlfriend's here." Davis's mom calls.

"Guess I should go." Davis says before we walk outside and see Caitlyn's car waiting.

"See ya." I say, starting to head back to my place.

"Hey." Davis says, "You should come to the dance tonight."

"I don't know." I respond.

"There's a good chance I might make a fool of myself."

"Slightly more tempting. But I think most of my dresses are a bit too Halloween for the occasion."

"Well, I'm sure you'd look good in anything you wore. Anyway, see ya." Davis says before running over to Caitlyn's car.

I then walked back home and looked through my clothes again before deciding I would go. I pulled out a red dress that was off shoulder and fell just above my knees. There was black lace over it and open lace sleeves over the tighter red sleeves. I finished the look with a black corset vest and black tights and shoes before adding by choker and other accessories before adding some curls to my dark red hair and pinning some of them up. For my makeup, I had red and black eyeshadow to match my red contacts and dark red lipstick. Once that was set, I texted Vi to let her know I would be at the dance before heading out.

When I got there, I tried looking for Davis, but I couldn't see him. I asked one of the girls who walked by, who turned out to be one of Caitlyn's Heathers, and she said she hadn't seen him either. Another girl then walked on stage to announce the Sweetheart Couple, which turned out to be Caitlyn and Davis. I watched as they walked on stage and were given the 'Mr. and Miss Sweetheart' sashes as Caitlyn clung to Davis.

Even though I had just got here, I felt like I had made a mistake by doing so. But before I left, I walked over to the food table which seemed to be run by the strange man from History.

"Hello." He says.

"Hi." I respond, not really looking up at him. I quickly got a drink and left, texting Vi that I would be over soon.

"So what changed your mind so fast?" She asked me when I made it to her place.

"I made a mistake." I said, telling her what happened.

"Well, he's an idiot for not noticing." Vi says, "If you want my opinion, he doesn't deserve you if he can't see past that. Do you want to stay for the night?"

"Can't. The cases for my contacts and fangs are at home, and we have school tomorrow. I can stay until we finish the movies." I respond.

Vi nods and we continue watching all five Twilight movies before I head back home and change out of my clothes before lying on my bed until I was too tired and fell asleep.
