"Are you okay?" my parents asked.
"I'm perfectly fine," I say back.
"Very well," they would say, oblivious to everything running through my mind.
"Are you okay?" my "friends" would ask.
"I'm great," I would say with a fake smile.
"Oh, Okay," they'd said back with the same happiness, but for them, it was real.
"Are you okay?" the guy I was in love with would ask.
"I'm great, thanks for asking," I would say back with a happy emoji.
"Don't lie to me," he would say.
"No, I'm perfectly fine. Don't worry," I would say hoping to convince him.
"Can you explain that?" he would say in all seriousness.
"What do you mean?" I would ask curiously.
"Explain to me how you can say you're fine when every time I see you, I see cuts all over your arms when your sleeves ride up. Explain to me how you're fine when you barely leave your room. Explain to me how you can say you're fine when I know for a fact you haven't even had a full meal today. Explain to me why you think I wouldn't catch on to the lies. Please explain it all to me," he would say, upset with me.
"Maybe I'm not fine..." I would say, awaiting the answer he would soon send.
"No shit, Sherlock," he would say now getting angry.
"I didn't want you to know. I didn't want to drag you into my problems..." I say, getting upset.
"Princess, if it involves you, it is my problem too. Baby, don't hide from me," he would say as he apologized over and over for upsetting me.
"I'm sorry," I'd say as I start to cry.
"It's not you fault, love. Just don't hide from me," he'd say as someone knocked on the door.
"I have to get the door, hold on," I'd say as I walked to the front of the house.
Standing there was the guy I love with a single white rose, my favorite.
"I love you, Princess. I'm gonna be here for you no matter what. Please don't hide from me. I just want you happy," he'd say as he pulled me into his arms, kissing my forehead.
"I love you too," I'd whisper as I started to sob.
My love was the only one to figure out between my lies.
The only one to have me explain.
Now tell me why him, when he used to be a complete stranger to me.
I knew him for a lot shorter time period than my friends and my parents.
Can you explain that?
