8:30 am
i jumped awake to the blaring sound of my alarm. the noise was almost traumatizing, but i managed to roll over in bed and silence it.
i sat up and yawned. last night was a restless one. jaemin had been up until 12 am playing overwatch, and i slept terribly after that. i had more nightmares in that one night than i ever had before. the amount of motivation in my body was sleeping away, and i was hoping i would have enough energy to make it through the day.
i looked to my right and noticed that jaemin was gone. a night owl and an earlier bird? weird, i thought to myself. it occurred to me that i had not even asked him what his major was, or even what time his lectures were. though he must have a pretty early class if he's left already.
the morning went by slowly. my 10 am lecture was extremely boring and i caught myself falling asleep every five minutes. i was relieved when our class was finally dismissed though, as now it was lunch time.
i quickly walked down to the dining hall, excited to see jiwon. i hadn't talked to her all weekend and i was dying to tell her everything about jaemin (mostly how annoying he was).
i grabbed the food they were serving (chicken and rice) and found a seat across from my best friend. luckily today, the food was something i would actually eat.
jiwon looked up to me in surprise. "ahh yujin! how are things? has your new roommate arrived yet?" she muttered through a mouthful of food.
"yah! don't eat with a mouthful!" i exclaimed.
jiwon grinned and apologized, then looked at me with big eyes, waiting expectantly for my answer.
"my new roommate did move in last night. weird thing is though, it was a boy-"
before i could finish, jiwon smiled and shouted, "AIGOO?? A BOY?? YUJIN THIS IS GREAT NEWS!" suddenly everyone in the dining hall looked at our table in confusion. i just facepalmed myself while jiwon apologized to those close to us.
"but seriously, a boy? he could be the one you've been waiting for!" jiwon winked at me.
i just rolled my eyes and sighed. "that would be amazing, but he's actually quite rude."
"ah yujin, you're probably just being dramatic," jiwon said with disappointment in her voice.
"no you don't understand! first of all, he just barged into my room last night, hitting me with the door and knocking me out cold!"
my best friend raised a brow. after she said nothing i continued.
"then he has the audacity to flirt with me and call me 'baby' and 'yujin-ie.' he doesn't even know me!"
jiwon slammed her hand on the table and burst out laughing. "aw, yujin-ie? he sounds like he adores you."
"much less than that! he kept me up all night with his video games!" i finished in a bitter tone while crossing my arms. i seriously couldn't believe this boy looking back on it.
"ahh~ things will get better, yujin. just give it time," jiwon stated.
but her comforting words meant nothing to me. i felt like complaining to our dorm supervisor about jaemin, until i realized that i might be taking it a bit too far.
"what's his name? you never mentioned it," my best friend asked.
i opened my mouth to answer, but before i could get anything out, a hand slammed down on the table besides me.
"na jaemin, my name is na jaemin."
i couldn't believe it. jaemin was really interrupting my lunch with jiwon.
i looked up to jaemin then looked back to my friend. jiwon smiled and nodded her head, as if to say 'wow, he's really handsome.' i just sighed.
there was a good amount of awkward silence between the three of us until jaemin spoke, "i was wondering if i could sit here? i don't really know anyone else."
"n-" was all i could utter out before jiwon spoke.
"of course!"
i glared at my best friend. she took a bite of her chicken and smiled at me with her fork in her mouth.
jaemin sat down next to me. i scooted my chair a few inches over so we wouldn't be so close, but he did the same, making the distance between us the same as it was before.
it was silent again before jiwon started to talk. "hello jaemin! i'm jung jiwon, yujin's best friend. well actually, her only friend, but it's alright because we're very close," she finished with a smile.
jaemin giggled to himself and thanked jiwon for the introduction. he looked to me, but i was too busy eating my rice to give him my attention.
"yah yujin-ie, that's kinda sad. you should try making more friends," he teased.
"i said don't call me yujin-ie!" i complained.
"oh she has trouble with that, i was the one that reached out to be her friend any-"
before jiwon could finish, i scowled at her. i didn't know i would be getting picked on by two people at lunch today.
"well i'm going to grab a drink from the pantry. i'll be right back," my best friend explained. i looked at her with desperation in my eyes, but she only grinned and walked away.
it was now just jaemin and i left at the table. i didn't look at him, i didn't talk to him, and i didn't even acknowledge the fact that he was there.
"we could have a conversation, or you could just continue to make this whole situation a lot more awkward," jaemin exclaimed and i looked up to him with anger in my eyes.
"i don't want to talk to you," i said while dipping my chicken into ketchup and shoving it in my mouth.
jaemin laughed softly and suddenly i felt him grab the side of my face and pull me towards him. he looked deeply into my eyes and we stayed that way for a bit. i gulped and i felt my heart skip a beat. the boy then brought a napkin up to my chin and rubbed it.
jaemin let me go and i quickly turned my head the other way. my face reddened, but i stayed silent.
"i know you're blushing," he stated, which only made me more embarrassed. "you had ketchup on your chin. i thought i'd help you out."
i just coughed awkwardly and mumbled, "thanks."
"woah did something happen?" i looked up and jiwon was already back. she noticed my pink cheeks and she titled her head sideways.
"no, nothing happened," i said calmly and continued to eat.
thankfully, jaemin didn't say anything either. i didn't need jiwon teasing me endlessly about this.
