11:45 am
it had been a couple days now since i accompanied jaemin to the house party, and things between us have become inevitably awkward.
we stayed as far away from each other as possible back at the dorm, and i always try my best to avoid him in the campus halls. though as much as i wanted to steer clear of the boy, another part of me missed him greatly.
"yujin-ah! yujin!" jiwon's voice snapped me back into reality.
i looked at her in shock before taking a bite of my sandwich. it had been only a weekend since jiwon and i last shared lunch together, but so much has happened.
"what's wrong with you today? you've been zoning out since you sat down," my best friend exclaimed in disbelief.
"i... i... i don't know," i sighed in frustration.
jiwon looked at me, and concern flooded her eyes. "you usually talk more than this. are you hiding something?" she worriedly queried.
i gave her a blank expression while nodding my head. i couldn't keep quiet any longer. "well there is something," i sadly spoke.
"you can tell me," jiwon assured me while grabbing my hand in support, which surprised me a bit.
i couldn't believe i was actually going to come clean about everything i'd been hiding from her. jiwon didn't know of a single thing that's happened between jaemin and i, other than what she's seen during lunch.
"i-it's jaemin. i'm so confused about my feelings towards him, and now we aren't even on talking terms," i explained, hoping jiwon wouldn't be mad that i've kept my feelings a secret from her for so long.
my friend glanced at me in confusion, but soon her face softened into an expression of understanding.
"yujin-ah, your feelings will become more clear to you later, don't overthink anything now," she comforted me.
i was relieved that jiwon wasn't upset, so i found it easier to be more honest with her. "but what do i do now? every time i'm around him i get stiff, and everything becomes awkward," i complained while holding back tears.
"talk to him, yujin, you have to, as hard as it might be," jiwon suggested with her eyebrows raised.
i sighed and looked down at my lap. she was right. i wanted to talk to jaemin, but for some reason, i couldn't bring myself to do so.
"what do i even say though?" i asked her with a frown.
"ahh yujin~ just tell him that you don't want things to be weird between you two anymore," jiwon paused to think, "and stuff like that," she finished with nod.
"thank you, jiwon," i said and gave her a smile. "i'm sorry for keeping my feelings hidden from you so long though."
my best friend just laughed. "you thought you were keeping them secret? yujin-ie, it's quite obvious that you like jaemin," jiwon teased and winked.
"yah! i don't even know if i truly like him! i just explained this to you," i retorted with crossed arms.
"well, i'm surprised you even admitted that you might have feelings," my friend restated with a grin.
i rolled my eyes at her and picked up sandwich to take another bite. it felt great to get that weight off my shoulders, but i still had to deal jaemin later.
"so that's why he hasn't joined us for lunch," jiwon observed.
i just nodded my head. "probably," i agreed with a sigh. i felt my chest tighten and my body slump. i missed jaemin. lunch without him felt weird now. i was getting so used to him being here.
jiwon noticed my disappointed and ruffled my hair. "cheer up, at least you still have me," she remarked.
i glanced up to her and faked a smile. i was thankful that my best friend was still supporting me, but that didn't distract me from the fact that jaemin still wasn't here.
i shook my thoughts away and continued to eat my sandwich when suddenly, someone set down a small carton of ice cream on my table. my eyes followed their hand up to their face, and my jaw dropped.
"you think i'd forget?" jaemin smiled
while resting his hand on my chair."i-i... t-thanks," i mumbled and directed my gaze down towards the ice cream. i turned around to look at him just once more, but he was already gone.
i grabbed the ice cream and held it close to me. i stared at the label for a bit before jiwon snapped her fingers.
"aigoo~ what was that all about?" she questioned.
i laughed and waved my hand at my friend. "i'll let you know later," i told her.
"aish, you better," jiwon replied before stuffing food into her mouth.
i looked at the ice cream once more and giggled. i opened the cup and started to silently eat the dessert. i was overwhelmed with happiness the moment its sweet taste hit my tongue.
i smiled to myself and looked up to the ceiling. he remembered.
