i have always valued my alone time. i've never really been a people person. i gain my energy back from laying in bed peacefully, completing independent activities on my own. so when my roommate had announced she was moving out, i wasn't too bothered by it. in fact, i truly looked forward to having the dorm to myself. it was an exciting thought to be able to work on assignments alone, or not having to deal with sleepless nights because of a snoring roommate.
but all of my hopes soon vanished after reading an email sent to me by my dorm adviser, notifying me that someone was to move in with me later this week. i sighed and rolled my eyes. i wasn't too disappointed though. i doubted that i was going to have my dorm to myself for long. that's just my luck.
it was nearing dinner time, and i hadn't eaten all day. my professors decided to suffocate me with projects and papers, making it hard for me to find the time to relax.
after spending more than enough time writing the introductory paragraph of an essay, i set down my pencil and left my dorm. i headed over to the dining hall. when i arrived, i took one glance at the food they were serving and turned away. of course there was nothing good; the meals are never usually appealing, so i decided to buy a cup of ramen from the pantry instead.
i put my ramen in a microwave near the dining hall and waited for it to warm up. while waiting, my phone lit up as a notification popped up on the screen. it was a text from my one and only best friend, jung jiwon.
jiwon was the first friend i ever made. we met my first year of high school. i was quite shy and introverted back then (i still am now), but jiwon was loud and cheeky. she sat next to me in my mathematics class and i often helped her on assignments. our friendship grew stronger from that point on.
it was comforting to know that jiwon would be attending the same university as me. i was worried i would loose her, and have to make new friends instead (which would've been impossible). but i was lucky enough to have her by my side. she helps me through everything, i love her dearly.
i grabbed my phone and opened it, curious as to what jiwon was asking.
jiwon-ie 👯♀️❤️

it won't.i set my phone down and rolled my eyes. aish, what is wrong with that girl? i thought to myself.
suddenly, the microwave beeped and my ramen was finished. i grabbed it quickly and made my way back to my dorm. my stomach rumbled loudly. i felt like i was starving. once i made it back to my room, i found a comfortable spot on my bed and turned on strong girl bong soon, which was one of my favorite dramas.
i finished my ramen quickly, which proved that i was pretty hungry. i stood up and paused the drama. i needed to throw away the empty cup i was holding. but before i could reach the trash, i heard a knock at my door.
i checked the clock. it was 7:58, who could be standing at my door? i snuck over to the peephole and peeked through, but i wasn't able to see anything.
i was a bit scared, so i grabbed a flashlight from my nightstand and slowly creeped up to the door. suddenly there was another set of knocks. they were louder and harsher this time. my heart raced as i grabbed the door knob. i slowly creaked open the door, but i felt a sharp push and i landed on the ground. everything went black.
15 minutes later...
"yah~ you really scared me for a second."
i drowsily opened my eyes and was stunned to find myself laying on the ground with a brown-haired boy hovering over me, his face inches from mine.
"yah! who are you?" i asked, panicked. i pushed him off of me and quickly got on my feet.
"aish~ do you really have to be so pushy?" the boy asked in a silky tone, rubbing his head.
i didn't respond. instead, i searched around the room for the flashlight i had grabbed earlier before i noticed it out of the corner of my eye. i lunged for the item and held it up in front of me, sort of like a sword.
the boy did nothing but laugh. i relaxed a bit, but did not completely let my guard down.
"you know, most girls would be pleased to find such an attractive human being in their presence," the boy spoke with a hint of amusement in his voice.
i looked at him sternly, "well i guess i'm not like most girls."
"that's cute," he said with a smile.
i felt my cheeks redden and i quickly looked away. i dropped the flashlight i was holding and crossed my arms.
"you still haven't answered my question," i stated with my head still tilted downwards.
"hm?" he sounded so innocent, though i knew he wasn't.
"pabo! what's your name? why are you here?"
he chuckled before starting to speak. "i knew what you were asking, no need to be so harsh."
i looked up to him and rolled my eyes.
"my name is na jaemin. i'm moving in here. i'm your new roommate."
