𝐁ROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
JANUARY 24th, 1990

"I would like to take college classes at NYU Principal Darwin. I know I'm a month late but I feel like I'm really sure about this decision." I said to Principal Darwin as I was currently in his office during my lunch period.

A smile forming on his face, "You know.. you're really lucky because I only had one seat left for the spring semester." He said, looking through the piles of paper in front of him.

"Really?"

"Definitely. I guess you can say that this is really made for you. Can I ask you a question?" He asked and I nodded my head.

"I mean.. you are the principal here." I awkwardly say, taken aback by his politeness.

"I'll take that as a yes. Are you going to be 100% committed to these college courses?" He asked and I stared at him.

Hopefully?

I mean that's the goal.

"Yeah, of course. I mean obviously life happens and I might miss a few classes but overall, I'll make it my prerogative to be there." I responded and I could tell he was pleased with my response.

"Okay then it's settled. Just have your parents sign this document." He said, passing me the document with his signature signed on the bottom.

"Classes will start the week post Mid-winter break. We will start off with your classes being only on Tuesday's and Wednesday's. Once we see you have adjusted then the number of days will increase." He said and I instantly began regretting this decision.

I wasn't a lazy person. Quite frankly, I didn't have a choice. Laziness wasn't really an option growing up. It sometimes gets annoying being smart because you have all these expectations that you need to withhold and all these opportunities. And sometimes, I just want to be free.

I think that's why I'm really happy that Malik entered my life the way he did. He's the only person that can actually make me have fun and enjoy myself. I actually have someone who can be a good distraction.

It's refreshing.

I'm not gonna tell him that though.

He's the type to take it and run with it.

We not gonna do that.
