The sound of volleyballs being hit surrounds me.
Right now, I have a huge volleyball serving test and I am scared out of my mind.
I can't even serve the ball over the net, so how am I supposed to pass this?
"Hey! Zola!"
I turn around to see Echo behind me, wearing a unicorn onsie.
Did I mention that it's Pajama Day?
"Hey, Echo nice onsie!" I scream.
"Nice pj's Zola!" She screams back.
After that... um... interesting date with Clarke, Echo is everywhere, insisting she can protect me.
I've been avoiding him for a whole three months.
Let me tell you, it is not that easy to be avoiding him when I hang out with loudest person alive.
"Zowwwllaaaa!!!!"
Speak of the devil.
"Chase, dude what's up?"
"Nothing, just came to wish you good luck on your test and right now I know you're scared and you're telling yourself that you can't pass this and you're giving me a death stare so I'll shut up now."
Chase looks at me from underneath his eyelashes.
"Chase, go chase Aria or something."
I widened my eyes in realization at what I had said and burst out laughing.
Chase just stared at me, like I was a flying pig or something.
"You- get it? - ha I said Chase- go- go chase -aria- ah -ah!" I said between snorts.
Chase raised his eyebrow, " No? No you're so funny Zola? No? Okay." I stared at the floor.
Talk about awkward.
"Oh, speaking of Aria, I heard you and her group got real chummy.
So, uh a favour for a best friend?
Talk to her about me and see if she likes me?"
"Nuh uh. Nada.No way."
And just at that moment, Mrs. Gian blew the whistle , indicating it's time for my test.
"Once again, good luck." Chase winks and then runs away.
The rest of my class gathers around Mrs. Gian ,as she starts explaining how the test works.
"The green line is 3 points and the yellow is 2. The back black line is worth 6 points including the hardness of your serve. So, let's go."
She turns to me, "Zola's up first."
Many eyes turn to me and I feel like a deer in headlights.
"You can do it Zo." Nicole, one of my friends, says determinedly.
"Thanks Nikky." I say with a smirk, knowing she hates that name.
And sure enough, she glares at me.
Wow, I certainly know how to wind people up. It's one of my best qualities.
"Zola, think fast!"
A ball comes hurtling towards me and I catch it just in time.
I turn and glare at the culprit.
"John! You could've ruined my face!"
"Really? Last time I checked, you didn't have one." He laughs.
I mutter curse words under my breath, as I make my way to the starting point.
I hold the ball forward, keeping my other arm ready to hit.
I roll the ball off my hand and hit.
Next thing I know, it's bouncing back to me.
Shoot!I try again and the same thing happens.
The whole class starts whispering and I feel so embarrassed.
Mrs. Gian tries to calm them down, as I twirl my hand round and round.
A little gust of wind comes out of it.
Oh yeah! I forgot for a moment there that I was the Earth Queen. I hope this works or I'll be the class laughing stock.
"Carry on Zola." Mrs. Gian says.
I take a deep breath and as I swing my hand to hit the ball I let a little wind carry the ball, up towards the ceiling, over the net and right onto the black line.
The whole class stares at me with awed whispers.
"Amazing shot Zola!" Mrs. Gian exclaims.
With a satisfied smirk, I saunter down to where Echo, Nicole and a few others are sitting.
Nicole bursts with excitement when I come to where she's sitting.
"Oh my god, girl you were amazing!!!"
"Yeah so good!"
"I wish I could hit like that..."
I smile throughout my little compliment shower, but Echo just glared at me.
"What?" I said in a hushed tone.
"I saw that! You used your powers to do what?! Pass a stupid volleyball test?!!! Didn't you learn anything from Mrs. K's classes?!"
Oh I did.
She spewed all sorts of crap about misusing powers and whatnot.
"I thought you would take this more seriously...." She huffed.
"I do. But I take it In my own way, Cho-cho."
Echo was about to explode when her face turned into an angry one.
She was looking behind me.
I turn and who do I see standing there?!
Of all people, at this time.
Who has the nerve to even come to talk to me after they've made me paranoid for three months.
In all his hot glory stands,
Clarke.
