Chapter 3

One week at the Roberto's had flown by fast.

I must say that I was enjoying my freedom after being locked up in that crappy hell hole of a home.

This 'normal' thing was finally working out for me and I was happy.

*Hammer, hammer , slam!*

Somebody was committing door abuse on my poor door.

Deciding that no door should have to go through this, I lethargically crawled to the door.

"Okay, okay you can stop abusing my door, now tell me what's up?"

Jake walked in, wait, correction skipped and I mean skipped  into my bedroom.

"Guess what?!  Guess what?! "

"What?" I asked glumly, I was seriously not in the mood for Jake's enthusiasticness (did I just make up a word? !) right now.

"You! That's what! You got specially requested to attend Marshall Academy for the Specially Gifted! That's like awesome dude! And you didn't even apply!"

"Oh yay. What fun. I'm just gonna turn down the offer,  it's not worth checking out anyway. "

"Oh, don't be a party pooper, Zo. This is amazing! Trace applied for this and you know how he is and even he didn't get accepted. Then, you don't even apply or anything and you get into the most prestigious school there is around here. I think it's worth checking out. "

He does have a point.  Trace is the triplet's overachieving older brother who does every activity you can imagine from calligraphy to professional photography.

If Trace applied and didn't get in, then there must be some reason why I got in.

And it definitely was not my archery skills, hell it might be because of my little 'secret'.

I definitely had to go now, to see if my powers were safe.

No, that was stupid.

But why me? Why me, Zola Meredith Green, freak of the Earth with no beauty and no talent whatsoever.

Unless you count the fact that I have control over the entire earth and I can rip you to shreds if I really want to.

But I guess that skill isn't very high on their lists for the qualities a student at Marshall needs.

"Come on."Jake sang in a daunting voice, "You know you want to."

"I don't know....."

"Go Zola. Or I'll tell Mom."

Panic was all over my face now. Whenever there was opportunity for her family, Naomi always forced you to take it, whether you wanted to or not.

I just had to give in.

"Fine." I grumbled.

"YAY!!!!"Jake threw his hands up, jumping a foot in the air.

"Im gonna go spread the word! ".
Jake exclaims and sprints out of the room.

Well, this is going to be one heck of a journey.

"Do it or you'll go without food for the rest of the WEEK!" Miss Clament screeched, her spit flying everywhere.

"But Miss I-"

"Do you want to starve Zola, do you really? !! Because I will make sure that you will!"

"Miss but-"

"I knew it was a mistake bringing you up here,  you're just a stupid little girl who has no brains!"

Anger poured out of me, but I held it in, I had to, if I wanted to make it out of here someday, I had to.

"Yes Miss. I will do it."

An evil smile crept onto Miss Clament's  horrid face.

"Good, but you will still get a punishment for behaviour."

Her beady eyes slowly travelled towards the whip stand.

My eyes widened when she proceeded to pick up the largest and bring it towards me.

" No Miss please,  I said I would do it. "

"Well maybe you shoud have thought of the consequences before you did this. You did this to yourself."

A loud  scream echoed everywhere , I tried to close my eyes, but a strong arm shook me......

"ZOLA!"

"ZOLA! WAKE UP!"

I opened my eyes to find a very worried and tired looking Joseph sitting on my bed.

"What happened?"

"Don't you dare do this again." He said angrily.

"Do what again?" I answered innocently.

"This. This thing where you try to kid yourself that you're okay, but you really aren't.

Just admit that you still have nightmares about that wretched place."

"No I won't admit it because that doesn't happen to me. "

Okay that was a 100% lie I knew I was traumatised after the incident that was ten years of my life, but I didn't want to be a burden to Joe.

"Then how do you explain the screaming just now? Hmm? I suppose it was just a ghost,  like it always is?" His tone was sweet but dripping with sarcasm.

"Joe, you don't need to worry about me, I'm fine, I really am."

With one last look of frustration at me, he silently got up and walked away, leaving me to my nightmares once more.
