11:00 a.m.

I decided it would be best to take the bus instead of walking back home since I didn't want to spend another 30 minutes in the cold. Plus, I wanted to be sure the cinnamon rolls and Calum's coffee stayed as warm as possible.

* * * *

The bus ride home flew by quick and I actually kind of enjoyed myself. I occasionally would look down at my phone to keep myself busy, playing a game or checking facebook, but for most of the bus ride I spent my time looking out the window, admiring the passing scenery of the white blurs of the snowy trees and the blanketed road-side.

The bus finally came to a stop at my corner and I got my things and made my way to the exit.

"Thanks again, Freddy." I said with a smile to the bus driver. "See you around."

"No prol'm, hon. Have a nice morn'n now." Freddy replied kindly in his country hick accent, accompanied with a toothy grin.

I hopped off the last stair of the bus back on to the slushy sidewalk and made my way back home. I walked up to my front door and jiggled the doorknob. It's locked. My hands were too full for me to search around my purse for my key, plus I was too lazy to try so I rang the doorbell. I waited a moment but totally forgot that Calum was asleep when I left. So I rang the doorbell again, but I just kept ringing it this time like an anxious child. I was getting really impatient and a tad bit annoyed that I was standing out in the cold waiting for Calum to open the door. After about a minute passed, I heard a loud, muffled 'I'm on my way for fuck's sake!' from inside.

I stopped ringing the doorbell and waited patiently for Calum to let me in.

"What the actual-" I heard Calum's muffled voice from the other side of the door. He unlocked the door and swung it wide open. He huffed a disgruntled sigh and looked at me with disapproval spread across his face.

"Surprise! I brought you coffee!" I sang in the sweetest tone I could possibly muster and smiled widely at Calum with as much false innocence as possible. His face remained unchanged. My face fell a little bit, but I remembered the cinnamon rolls.

I brought the bag I was carrying the cinnamon rolls in up to somewhat level with my face and swung it slightly and said in a cutesy voice "I brought cinnamon rolls." His face remained unchanged until I began to batt my eyelashes, his frown creeping up into a smile. He took the bag and the coffee from my hands and moved from the door allowing me in. I took of my coat and boots and made my way past the kitchen into the dining room where Calum was already making himself acquainted with the cinnamon rolls.

"Oh my god," Calum started with cheeks full, "these cinnamon rolls are ridiculous." He leaned back in his seat with his eyes closed chewing his food, adding a loud grunt of satisfaction making me giggle. "Where'd you get these?" Calum asked, admiring his cinnamon roll before taking another bite.

"I went down to that new mini mart, bakery place that just opened up." I opened the gray curtains that covered the bay window in the dining room to let some light in before sitting down across from Calum. I grabbed my eggnog, my banana and a cinnamon roll and continued. "When I woke up this morning, I felt like going for a walk-"

"That's a long walk." Calum cut me off. I looked up at him and rolled my eyes.

"Anyway," I continued while peeling my banana, "I was getting kind of cold and hungry and I didn't want to walk all the way to Sandra's (breakfast diner in our town), so I figured I'd go inside and get something to eat." Calum furrowed his brows and looked at me with puzzlement on his face. I took a long gulp of my eggnog. "What?" I asked after taking a big bite of banana.

"Why is it that you always go off somewhere without telling anyone?"

"I just went for a walk." I said nonchalantly, shrugging my banana in my hand.

"Did you walk back?"

I shook my head. "I took the bus. It's too long of a walk and I didn't want everything to get cold." I took a sip of my eggnog and immediately cringed, covering my mouth. It was like eating a spoonful of nutmeg. "Can you get me a cup of milk, please?"

"Nice to know you were thinking of me." Calum said sarcastically, getting up and shuffling into the kitchen.

"That's why I'm your favorite!" I responded, raising my voice so he could hear me from the refrigerator. "Bring me a knife and fork while you're at it."

"Why?"

"For my cinnamon roll. What else?"

"Use your hands."

"I don't wanna." I said with a small whine.

"What's the magic word, then?"Calum said rhythmically.

"Please." I dragged, rolling my eyes.

"Ok, whiney pants." Calum returned carrying a glass of milk and some plastic-ware.

"Thank you." I sang grabbing the plastic fork and knife from his hand.

After about an hour of sitting at the table eating and talking about everything and nothing, we decided to get dressed for the day.

I was lying on Calum's bed waiting for him while he was in his closet getting dressed.

"What should we do today?" I ask trying to start conversation to control my ever growing boredom.

"I don't know. Got any ideas?"

"Should we go to the movies?"

"Eh, nothing good is playing."

I sat up in my spot on the bed. "Book store?"

Calum peaked his head around the corner of his closet door, looking at me with a cocked brow. "Do I look like I read? Do you even know me?"

"Ok, sorry. No book store." I say putting my hands up in defense. "Umm, what about..."

"Ah, shit!" Calum hissed from his closet. "Z, what time is it?"

"Uh", I took a glance at my phone, "12:50. Why? What's wrong?"

"I was supposed to go to Marli's house today. I said I'd be there at 1:00, shit."

"Oh, okay." I responded, trying to mask my disappointment.

Calum rushed out of his closet with his green plaid flannel half way buttoned. He scattered around his room in a hurry looking for the items he needed so he could make it to his girlfriends house on time. When he finally got a chance to relax a little, he glanced towards me, realizing my disappointment. "Hey, next time, Z. I promise." He grabbed his car keys off his dresser and walked to where I was on his bed and gave me a quick peck on the top of my head. "I'll see ya later, kid." I gave a small smile and short wave as he walked out of his room.

When I heard the front door close, I flopped back on the bed and let out a huff of breath and just stayed there staring at the ceiling. After a small moment, I felt a buzz from my phone resting next to me. I sat back up and eagerly snatched my phone off of the covers and opened my messages to reveal a new message from Luke. Perfect timing.

"Are you still up for today?"

"yeah, I'll be waiting by your car."

"okay, I'm on my way :)"

I scooted off of Calum's bed and left to my room to make some quick final touches on my hair and makeup before making my way to the front door.
