The sun glistened through the window, shining on my back, giving off heat. I opened my eyes and looked at Bert who was still asleep. I smiled at him and sat up. A bundle of wrinkled blanket laid upon my lap as I ran a hand through my hair. My head pounded just when my eyes were slowly adjusting to the light of day. Someone grabbed my arm and I snapped my head around. Bert looked up with the haze of the morning. He groaned lightly and used his other hand to rub his closed eyes.
"Stay." He said and I smiled. I pulled the blankets up to my chin, falling back into the blow up mattress. Bert's arms gripped my body, holding me close to him like a child.
We paid like that for at least an hour when one of our cell phones rang. Bert tried falling back to sleep but the sound of the phone ringing startled him. He broke apart from me and say up straight, I repeated the act. We sat up together and I was the first to move out of bed. He soon followed behind me. I sat on a fold up chair by the counter and grabbed a piece of paper from one of the remaining boxes. I also grabbed a pencil from the box. Bert had snatched his phone and picked up the phone when it rang again.
My hand moved the pencil across the paper, watching the lines form together and create a fine print eve of art. Each line created an even better detail to the art work. I smiled at the drawing as I realized what it was becoming. Bert's hands went on either side of shoulders and rubbed while he was still on the phone, probably balancing his phone with his own shoulder. His hands left and disappeared somewhere and talked into the phone again.
"That's beautiful Gerard." He said quickly when he got the chance to.
"Thank you." I smiled and felt him smile as well.
Just as he finished talking on the phone, I finished the drawing. I looked down at it and I smiled brightly. It was Bert. He was looking out the window with a far away look in his eyes. When he walked in to see it completed, he stopped in his tracks. His eyes scanned the photo and traced the background (which was a wall decorated with flowers). The amazement in his eyes made my heart melt. He looked at all the details on the drawing.
"This is amazing!" He exclaimed. His smile spread from ear to ear. He then wrapped his arm around my waist and kissed my cheek.
"Thank you." I smiled.
"How did you draw this without a reference?" He asked, noticing that there were no pictures whatsoever around the apartment anymore. A stern look spread across his face as he pondered deeply.
"Well, to be honest, I remember that day we were together at your house. We were in middle school at the time. You watched the rainfall from the window. I drew you as an adult in a scene from your childhood. I also added my own details to the drawing." I replied with full detail.
"That's even more amazing! The rain looks so real! It's so perfect. Gerard I love it." He gushed l. He kissed my lips and I kissed back. A spark of electricity fled through us. A feeling of absolute love and care filled us both. And with that I know we're going to be together for a long time.
"I'm going back to my place to wait for the movers. I'm borrowing the van so I'll pick you up later, okay?" Bert spoke.
"Okay. Love you."
"Love you too." Bert responded and took the keys of the counter. He left the house after and shut the door quietly. Finally, some alone time.
I walked into the hallways and gripped a canvas from the box labeled "Art." I smiled and brought it into the living room. At first I wanted to paint, or rather sketch an outline, but moved to something bigger. I approached the wall and drew an outline. I quickly grabbed my cell phone. I dialed a number and waited.
"Hey Gerard!" Mikey exclaimed, picking up the phone on the first ring.
"Can I ask you a favor?" I questioned.
"Yeah. What do ya need?" He replied, willing to do it.
"Could you run to the store and get me paint? Bert has the van and won't be around till later. I'm not sure what paints I need though." I told.
"Of course. But why do you need that?" Mikey questioned.
"I guess you'll just have to wait and see."
---------------------------
"I got you all," Mikey heaved, "this." He fu I shed and placed down the last of the 8 colored cans.
"Thank you so much. How much was that?" I questioned while checking my pockets, grabbing my money.
"Don't worry about the money. It's on Alicia and I." He smiled. "Speaking of Alicia, I need to take her to the doctor."
"Again, thanks. I also hope she feels better."
"Thank you. Bye." Mikey gave one last smile and left.
I walked towards the paint and opened it, watching it drop down from the cap into the can. I dragged the cans towards the wall. I splashed colors all over the wall, watching it drip down. I soon spread it out with my sponge brush. I smiled and be lender colors every where. Orange, red and blue hues dropped down the wall, followed by a white which surprised me that Mikey got. I continued to paint until noon when it was finally finished. I poked out my tongue and stepped back. I admired my work with paint splattered all over my and the wall. It was finally finished.
