This was the hardest chapter I had to write because I hate needles and blood. But anyway, enjoy it! :)
At school, Erica and I are volunteering for the annual blood drive, since we crave blood because we're vampires. We notice Sarah enter the room and we decide to greet her. "Hey, Sarah," Erica says with a grin as I hold a tray of cookies for the students donating blood with a smile. "Cookie?" I ask innocently, with the smile still on my face. Erica flashes her fangs at Ethan and Sarah while they look at her and me with worried looks.
After putting the tray of cookies down, I help one of the nurses clean up the spot where the needle was in the student's forearm. I gently glide the cotton ball onto the affected area of the student's skin and I put a band-aid onto the area. The male student smiles at me and I glance up to him, meeting his gaze, kindly smiling back. "You're all set. Have a nice day," I stated politely. His smile doesn't leave his face as he says: "Thank you" to me and then he leaves.
Next, I walk over to Erica and I see her sniffing a cotton ball with blood on it. "It smells delicious," Erica describes with a satisfied sigh. "Agreed, but we have to keep this covert because our friends are already suspicious of us," I explain. Erica responds with a smirk. "I can be sneaky."
Then, Sarah appears behind us with a look of disbelief on her face. "Student volunteers? That is so devious!" She exclaims with annoyance. "Hmm! Kind of clever," She states. "It was Zoe's idea," Erica says truthfully. Sarah looks at me with widened eyes. "Hey, vampires need blood and I am one of them," I state, defending myself with my arms crossed over my chest.
Erica looks at the blood in the multiple bags in the plastic container. "So, when are you gonna take a sip? The sooner we get past this whole awkward phase of our friendship, the better," Erica pushes. "I don't eat humans. Sorry if that's awkward for you," Sarah retorts. Erica tauntingly holds up a blood bag in front of Sarah with a smirk. "Erica, you really shouldn't be teasing Sarah like this. If she doesn't want to drink blood, don't force her," I state as I try to convince her to stop. Sarah looks at the bloody bag and goes to reach for more chips. She digs into the bag but doesn't find a single chip. Not even a crumb. She drops the bag and walks out of the room in frustration. "Erica, you shouldn't have done that!" I scold her while crossing my arms. "She'll join us... eventually," Erica responds with a grin while she goes over to help one of the nurses. I do the same, as I help out the other nurse.
Then, we hear one of the nurses stating: "Annie, keep the line moving, I'm heading over to the truck." The nurse, Annie nods. "Truck? Full of blood?" Erica mumbles. She ponders: "We'll need a gullible little monkey to steal it for us." Rory walks in and exclaims: "Oh, baby!" While noticing the blood. "A blood vending machi--" We shush him before he could say anything else to blow our cover. "Sweet!" He says as he looks at Erica with a look of admiration. "How would you like to go on a secret mission?" Erica asks him. "Here's the plan," Erica says as she whispers the plan to Rory and I. Then, Erica pops off the end of the blood bag, revealing a needle. Then, I hear a loud thud and look to see Ethan on the floor, passed out. My eyes widen after the incident. Annie gasps and runs over to him to check if he's alright. The nurse tells us to take a break while she deals with Ethan. Erica and I shrug and walk out of the room to find Sarah.
We see her angrily yelling at a vending machine. We carry our blood-filled coffee cups over to Sarah while walking over to her. She's about to hit the vending machine when Erica and I appear from the corner. "You do realize you could end your pain with one teensy little sip?" Erica asks Sarah as she teases her once more, waving the flowing blood in the cup in front of Sarah's face. She looks at the cup as if she is hypnotized, then she snaps out of it. "That blood is meant to save lives, you know," Sarah argues. "Well, duh! Mission accomplished," Erica responds. We drink the blood from our cups, the crimson substance staining Erica's teeth, along with mine. "See? No screaming," Erica replies with a satisfied smile. "Right. Until you two get caught. We'll see who screams then," Sarah angrily remarks as she tears open her chip bag, as chips explode from it onto the floor. "Oh! No problem," Erica states with a satisfied smirk as she pats Sarah's shoulder. "Five-second rule," she jokes as she turns around to leave. I scoff and roll my eyes to look toward Sarah. "I am so sorry about Erica," I state with an apologetic look before leaving her to go after Erica.
