The next day at school, Erica and I walk toward Sarah who is drinking from a juice box. I raise a confused brow as we walk up to her. "Did you turn 11 last night?" Erica remarks. "What's with the juice box?" I question, pointing at it. "It's a new blood substitute Benny's grandma gave me. I guess she's used to packing nerd lunches," Sarah comments. Erica grabs the juice box from Sarah and both of us sniff the substitute, earning disgust from both of us. "Ugh! It smells like a shoe. How is it?" I ask. "Not bad. Aside from the fact it may cause nausea, dizziness, irritability, bloating, and sleep drooling," Sarah states the facts on the back of the juice box sarcastically. "So I hate it," she concludes. "I know you think feeding on humans is 'wrong,' but do you really want to risk bloating?" Erica questions as she motions her hands, hovering over her stomach to mimic the look of someone's stomach bloated.

I see Ethan, Rory, and Benny in stupid outfits. I tap Erica's shoulder and she and I share a look of perplexity. Sarah decides to walk up to Ethan when he walks toward us. "This new blood is awful! I need a new new one!" Sarah demands with a whisper. "You guys gotta stay out of sight. That's Doug Falconhawk," Ethan warns us. "Is that, that night vision poser from that show you guys like? He looks like a prison hairdresser," Sarah remarks with amusement. "Yeah, serious mullet fail," Erica comments. I nod in agreement with those two comments uttered by my friends. Ethan is taken aback by my friend's comments and my agreement to Doug's 'fashion sense.' "And you should be worried about him," Erica states in disbelief. "If he gets in my way, he's lunch," Erica threatens. "His hair... is awesome! Doug is like Batman. And... all four Ghostbusters, and, like, a scientist motorcycle gang, all in one. And, if he spots you, you won't have a chance," Ethan alerts us, still defending Doug. The girls and I glance at each other, unsure how to go about this.

Later, at night, Erica and I figured Sarah would be in the cemetery, trying to eat rats. She brings out her juice box and frustratingly tries to stick the straw into the box. She throws it, and with my enhanced reflexes, I catch it in my hand. "You should recycle instead of littering in our green spaces," Erica tells her. "Sorry. This slop is making me nuts. And slow! I can't even catch a rat," Sarah comments with an annoyed tone. "Go bug the nerd king. He can just science you up something new," Erica responds while crossing her arms. Sarah doesn't respond and looks at the ground, considering what Erica had said. Then, Erica says her goodbyes to us and leaves Sarah and me alone. "I'll go over there with you," I state with a small smile. "Thanks, Zoe, I know I could always count on you," Sarah responds, returning a grin. We go over to Ethan's house to see if Sarah can get another substitute.

Sarah rings the doorbell and waits impatiently at the front porch. "I need... blood. Help me!" She begs. "Sarah, Zoe, Doug's gonna see you!" Ethan warns us in a whisper. "Oh, no. I'm paralyzed by terror," Sarah responds sarcastically. I nervously walk in the house and close the door behind me. "What good is a camera that sees vampires when there's no vampires to see?" Doug asks with a saddened tone.

He looks through the camera at us in shock. "Holy cow! Two vampires!" He exclaims in horror. "What? No, these are just... girls I know... which they had just shown up to leave," Ethan fibs, trying to push Sarah and me out of the house. "Oh, give me a break!" Sarah angrily responds. She hisses at Doug, leaving him in fear. My eyes widen as I apprehensively slowly walk toward the door to leave. "Vampires! Vampires!" Doug shouts in terror. "Looks like I broke your hero. Now, can you science me some new blood?" Sarah questions impatiently. "He saw you two!" Ethan whisper yells with dread. "Yeah, and he really looked like he was gonna do something about it. The guy is a total poser," Sarah remarks with her arms crossed. Suddenly, an arrow almost hits Sarah, leaving her and me in shock. "Two vampires," he says as he aims toward me. "The haters on my blog can eat it!" Doug shouts. I grab Sarah's hand and we run out of the house together while Doug chases us.
