When Carlisle visited Charlotte's room that night, he did not expect to be stepping onto a beach.
"Where are we?" Asked Carlisle as he approached the sand in front of the sea, where Charlotte was sitting.
On her left the was the ghost of a beautiful woman, was was staring adoringly into Charlotte's eyes.
Charlotte sighed and drew the memory back inside her, allowing the room to return to normal.
"We went to Florida one year on holiday, the year before she died" revealed Charlotte.
"That was your mother?" Questioned Carlisle.
Charlotte nodded her head as she jumped up off the floor.

"I was just coming to ask you whether you'd like to explore some of your vampire abilities with me in the forest. It's night, so there's no chance of us walking into any humans" admitted Carlisle.
"Sounds good... I just need a minute alone first" Charlotte said quietly, as her mind was still on her mother.
"Sure. I'll meet you outside when you're ready" replied Carlisle, before he began making his way out of the room.
Charlotte had been unpacking one of the boxes she'd brought with her when she'd come across the picture of her mother, and decided to see if she could use her gift to see her mother again.
This was the first time she had used her gift intentially, and she was pleased to find that she couldn't just project images, but that she could replay sounds that accompanied the memories. This allowed her to hear her mothers voice again.

Once she had cleared her mind, Charlotte made her way downstairs to join Carlisle.
"I know you used some of your abilities when we hunted yesterday, but you didn't really get to try things out, and test yourself" admitted Carlisle, as they stepped into the forest.
"No, I guess there was a lot to do yesterday, and we didn't have time to mess around" agreed Charlotte.
"Quite. As a newborn you are stronger than the rest of us in the house"
"Even Emmett?"
"Yes, even Emmett. This is because your own human blood lingers in your tissues, which makes you stronger. This also explains why your red eyes, and ours aren't. But they will fade in time"
"Good. That's the one thing that I find a little off putting when I look in the mirror"
"Normal vampires who prey on humans never lose their red eyes. But over time ours turned gold, due to only surviving off of animals. However, when we haven't hunted in a while, our eyes turn black like other vampires, when we're thirsty".

"So other than strength and speed, are there a lot of things I can do?" Asked Charlotte.
"Well you have incredible senses, as you've probably noticed. Your hearing, sense of smell, and eyesight now far exceed any humans" answered Carlisle.
"Yeah, I kind of noticed"
"The one thing you won't be able to see now, is how your body looks in direct sunlight"
"Doesn't the sun burn our skin?"
"No, that's just a myth. However, it does make our skin sparkle and shine. Which is why we can't go out when it's very sunny, as people would know that we were different"
"I can't wait to see it. I guess that's why you moved here, as there is very little sunshine"
"You're quite right. We tend to avoid places that have a lot of sun. And when the sun can't be avoided, we stay inside".

"Right... I feel like there's so much to remember" sighed Charlotte.
"You've got time. You don't have to learn everything in a day" replied Carlisle.
"I know, but I want to, because I don't want to let you down. You risked everything by bringing me into your family. And I want to make you proud. I don't want you to regret your decision"
"You don't need to prove yourself to me. I'm pleased and proud of the progess that you've made so far. And I would never regret saving you and making you a part of our family"
"Thanks".

"Why don't you test out your strength on that tree over there" suggested Carlisle.
"What do you want me to do to it?" Asked Charlotte as she stared at the fallen tree that lay on the path in front of them.
"Pick it up" encouraged Carlisle.
"But it's huge. It must weigh loads"
"It does, but you are strong now, you can lift it easily. Trust me".
Charlotte approached the tree and placed her arms under it.
She then turned back to look at Carlisle, who nodded his head.
Charlotte took a deep breath and lifted the tree, preparing herself for it's heaviness. But she found that it was no heavier than her school bag when it was filled with books.

After throwing the tree across the forest, Charlotte ran back to Carlisle with a smile on her face.
"That was easy. The tree didn't even feel that heavy" grinned Charlotte.
"I told you so" Carlisle smiled.
"I want to do something else" admitted Charlotte.
"Why don't you try climbing one of these trees. You won't be able to see that much because it's dark. But you'll be able to see more than you would if you were still human".
Charlotte nodded her head and ran straight to the nearest tree. She wrapped her arms around it, and began to shimmy up it easily. And in no time at all, she had reached the top.
Despite the darkness, Charlotte could see the beautiful forest all around her, and she could even see the mountains in the distance.

"Instead of climbing down, why don't you just drop to the ground?" Suggested Carlisle, who didn't need to shout for Charlotte to hear him, as her amazing hearing picked up his voice from the forest floor.
Charlotte decided to test herself, so she jumped off the tree, and found herself flying through the air, before landing several feet away from Carlisle.
"That was amazing!" She exclaimed as she made her way back over to him.
"You just need to trust your body, and will do whatever you want it to" admitted Carlisle.

"So nothing can hurt me in this body?" Questioned Charlotte.
"No human, can touch you. And your skin is so strong that it can't be broken, and you will never bleed. But you can be killed by other vampires. However, it is very hard to destroy a vampire" replied Carlisle.
"But it can be done?" Quizzed Charlotte.
"Yes. You have to rip them apart and throw the pieces into a fire. That it is the only way to kill a vampire. Other than that, we are completely indestructable"
"I like the sound of that, being indestructable. Now that I'm a vampire, there is nothing that can stop me".
