3/31/20 - 4/2/20

The sun shone bright over the vast yet unfamiliar land you stood in. Few puffy clouds, some mostly transparent yet all colored a pure white, graced the baby blue sky overhead. A light breeze flurried throughout the area, coaxing the leaves of the trees, the flowers of the meadows, and the grass of the valleys into a lively dance of sways. The golden rays of the glistening sun reached nearly every surface, giving off the illusion of a glittering veil that covered the world. Deer pranced to and fro in the open, while horses freely galloped together near the fruit-filled bushes and trees. Butterflies fluttered and insects buzzed without a care. Everything was in perfect balance, a perfect harmony. Surprisingly.

This strange place you woke up in, was it always like this? Looks so deceiving and atmospheres far from the truth? The land looked heavenly and peaceful, yet there was little life to be found. In fact, death almost seemed like the only outcome from traversing across a single inch of land. How strange that ominous clouds of dense grays and blacks didn't crowd the sky, blocking out the light and warmth of the sun. How peculiar that animals dared to continue roaming the desolate greenery. How bewildering that there was any greenery—rather, any color— at all. The world was presented to all in a false perspective. There were far more secrets and lies before your very eyes than you could count.

The sun only illuminated the way for the many grotesque monsters that plagued the land, screeching like idiots and ferociously chasing the wildlife. The clouds only served as a remainder that not a storm nor raindrop was in range, only giving the beasts more reasons to be lurking about. The breeze that stimulated the leaves and the flowers and the grass itself only came from the violent rambunctiousness of the vile beings. The rays of the sun didn't protect any lifeforms, only left them perfectly visible to the beady eyes of the countless monstrosities. The deer only pranced to escape the hungry ones, and the horse only galloped to escape the greedy ones. The butterflies only fluttered away from being added to meals, and the insects only buzzed to escape being added to elixirs. Everything was in complete chaos, an utter disaster. Not surprising at all.

Yet it was here for stayed and here you had to wait. No weapons or anything of the sort on hand, as you could only feel a peaceful, non-violent nature on the inside. No food or other provisions in storage as you had emerged from your slumber only hours ago. No proper clothing on your body, only a tattered short-sleeve dress and some overly-beaten boots. The dress was of a pure white color, easily showing the stains of blood and dirt that were goddess knows how old. The boots barely even provided support and protection for the bottom of your feet, most of the soles missing and your toes sticking out. Old, crusty bandages, covered in blood and dirt as well, were wrapped around both your forearms and the top of your head.

Yet, for some reason, you had been fairly good at finding gems and ores, and the only actual task you had accomplished so far was getting a horse of your own. You hadn't even truly tamed the poor thing. One of those malicious beasts had left their tamed victims unattended, and you didn't hesitate to take the opportunity to save the poor creature from its captive fate. The horse followed without resisting as you led it away, giving it an apple you plucked from a tree once the two of you had walked far enough out of reach. The horse never left your side after that, and you certainly weren't complaining. The worry nagged at your head that this horse may very well be your only ever friend, your only ever company even. You doubted the mission at hand, the one spoken to you by a disembodied female voice, for you had yet to see a single human being.

When you had first awakened, all you could see was blurry darkness. Gradually, dancing spots of light began to fade into view, and the next thing you knew, you were completely bombarded by rushing water. Desperately pushing yourself towards the light, you broke through the water's surface as a coughing, sputtering mess. You were in the middle of some sort of lake, one with an old, partially crumbled bridge structured overhead. It was then that you heard her, the disembodied voice.
