Run and Hide

Lola's POV
"Vega.." I half whispered.

Vega smiled, the glint of his gun shining in the sunset.

"The one and only, Ellie." Vega said.

Ashton pulled me behind him as Vega stepped closer to us. I wanted to confront Vega but i didn't think he'd strike so quickly ! Hell I should've known he'd pull something like this.

"Awww so sweet, pretty boy thinks he can protect you from a bullet ?" Vega sneered.

I tried to say something but my throat was dry from fear. I saw Ashton grab something from his pocket and I looked up and saw what he was about to do.

"There's one thing you didn't count on bud." Ashton spat.

Vega laughed and pointed the gun at us, I could hear it click as he loaded it. That's when Ashton pulled out the pepper spray and sprayed Vega straight in the eyes.

Vega screamed as his hands went for his eyes to try and stop the burning. Ashton grabbed my hand once again and we started to run towards his car.

"Ashton ! Where are we going ?" I shouted trying to keep up with his long strides. Hey I was never athletic so sue me !

"We're getting out of here." He said and he quickly unlocked his car and we both got inside.

He put the key into the ignition and we sped off into the night. I looked back to see Vega glaring at us. I gulped and quickly turned back around. This can't be happening again...

I pulled my legs close to my chest and tried to slow my breathing. I hated how Vega basically had this effect on me. I hid my face under my arms and tried my hardest not to cry.

"Lola.... Lola are you alright ?" Ashton asked. "Lola talk to me !"

It was almost like I was in a loud tunnel, I could barely hear him... beyond the panic building up inside me.

I felt the car stop somewhere and Ashton got out and rushed over to the passenger door and opened it, he kneeled down and pulled my arms away from my face.

"Hey, hey it's okay. We got away." He said as he cupped my face in his hands.

Tears fell down my cheeks, it was like dam had broken. He pulled me into his chest and I held on for life as I cried.

"I'm sorry.." I cried, my voice a bit muffled. "I'm so sorry !"

"Hey." He said, turning my face to look at him. "Don't be sorry. What just happened would have anyone rattled."

I knew he was right but this wasn't suppose to happen ! Now I got him involved in this mess ! Vega wasn't going to stop until he got what he wanted. What confidence I had of catching him went out the window.

Later that day....

I sat at the big bay window staring outside as the rain fell from the sky in buckets. After we had escaped Vega, I had called Detective Manning and now we were at a safe house far away from civilization.

"No I can't say right now. All I can say is that we're fine." Ashton said while on the phone with Luke.

I hated myself for getting Ashton involved in this mess. Now we were both hiding from a mad man who wanted to probably kill both of us.

Detective Manning had left the safe house to get some necessities for us and refused to let me come along after what happened. So here I was glued to a window seat doing nothing but thinking about everything.

Ashton finally got off the phone and joined me on the window seat, he put his hand on my shoulder to get my attention.

"I'm so sorry for getting you involved in this mess." I said as I looked up at him. "It's all my fault.."

He rubbed my shoulder gently as if he was trying to calm me down. All I could think about was what if's.

"You need to stop blaming yourself. Ok ? All that matters to me right now is keeping you safe." He said, I placed my hand over his and gave it a squeeze.

"You're amazing you know that ?" I said smiling through the tears.

Ashton chuckled and I leaned against him, my head resting on his shoulder.

"I am pretty amazing." He replied and I sat up and playfully slapped his shoulder.

The sound of the door opening made me jump but Detective Manning came in, giving me a sigh of relief. She dropped a bag of groceries on the kitchen table.

"You two behaving yourselves ?" She asked suspiciously.

Why was she always thinking we were doing stuff ?

"Yes, we were just talking." I replied offended.

"Yeah we totally weren't about to make out when you entered." Ashton joked, my eyes widened.

Detective Manning shook her head and just went upstairs without another word.
