Chapter 10: The Boat Ride Home

"So where are we headed anyway?" Kotori asked. "Republic City." Bolin answered. "So did you leave Kuvira on your own or did you have a buddy?" Kotori asked. "Oh yeah... This is Varrick..." Bolin said in an unimpressive voice, gesturing to the man beside him with a mustache.

They came to a crooked dock where a small boat made of spare parts was floating. They loaded on and Kotori hopped in. They offered to let Bolin and Varrick come. "On that hunk a junk? Uhh no. sorry, I'm allergic to drowning." Varrick said before Bolin interrupted to say they would.

The sun set and they started getting board. Then Bolin and Varrick started making up and telling stories. They all sat at the back of the boat and listened. However, Kotori wasn't in the mood to listen to stories and when to the cramped area of the front of the boat. When the story telling was done, Kotori heard someone coming. She looked up and saw Bolin.

"Hey Bolin." Kotori smiled a little sleepily. "What are you doing up here all by yourself?" Bolin asked. "Well... I'm trying to lava bend..." Kotori sighed. "What do you mean? You said you-" "I did. But, I can turn lava to rock. I can't turn rock into lava." Kotori sighed. "Well, lemme help you." Bolin smiled and sat down beside her.

Bolin held out his hand and Kotori slipped the rock she was messing with into it. He took both hands and slightly clenched them. The rock started to glow yellow and became warm. Soon it was in a liquid state of magma. It was dark and Kotori and Bolin's faces glowed from it. "Okay, turn this lava to stone." Bolin instructed.

Kotori focused on the small mass of heat and the glowing died down and the heat decreased until it was a little black rock. Bolin made the stone float over to Kotori. Then she grabbed it. "Yikes!" She screeched, tossing the rock to the floor. "It's still hot!" Bolin laughed. "Couldn't've told me sooner?" Kotori asked playfully as she cupped her hand.

She pulled the rock up with earth bending and focused on it. She began to glare at it. Her hands started shaking and she closed her eyes. "Lava is just another form of Earth Bending." Bolin said. Then it happened. The stone slowly formed into magma. The heat lightly blew Kotori's hair upward. She opened her eyes and happily smiled. Out of excitement, she stopped bending. The lava started falling. Bolin threw his hands forward and bent the lava, preventing it from falling. "Carefullllllll! That would've burned clean through your leg!" Bolin scolded, tuning the lava back into rock. "Hey, I'm sorry! But it is my leg!" Kotori laughed.

"And I can lava bend." Kotori smiled. "But you're definitely going to need some training and practice." Bolin said. "Coulddddddd you train me?" Kotori asked. "Yeah! I mean, I'll try. But before that, I've got some things to resolve with Mako and Korra." Bolin sighed. "Wait- Korra as in the Avatar?" Kotori asked.

"Yeah? Ohhh yeah... I never told you about Korra..." Bolin admitted. "Nooooo you didn't." Kotori replied. "Well, this starts wayyy back, several months before Amon. We became friends through pro bending. We were close friends up until she faced Zaheer. She went home to heal for a couple years. By the time she came back I was helping Kuvira, which she was fine with until Kuvira didn't return power to Prince Wu. I still followed Kuvira around everywhere after that. Not to mention my brother Mako is Prince Wu's body guard and we had a big fight before I left... I didn't leave things the way I should have." Bolin sighed.

"Bolin, did you think what Kuvira was doing was wrong?" Kotori asked. "No, not until just recently." Bolin sighed. "And did you leave when you found out?" Kotori asked. "Oh course I did!" Bolin answered. "Then you have nothing to be sorry for. You were doing what you thought was good for the Earth Nation. And as soon as you found out it was wrong, you stopped." Kotori encouraged. "Yeah, but my brother warned me and I ignored it." Bolin slumped. "I can't help you with sibling problems... I don't have any." Kotori sighed. "You were just trying to help. You know that don't you?" Kotori asked.

"Yeah... But I just messed everything up!" Bolin slightly shouted. "Kuvira Is the one messing everything up." Kotori said angrily. "I guess... Anyway, now you know my story, how did you end up on your way to a reeducation camp?" Bolin asked. "Well, Kuvira's excuse was that I commuted treason, when really I had no loyalty to begin with. I'm a citizen of Republic City, and a member of the Water Tribe. So in two places and neither of them the Earth Nation. Anyway. As you know, i put up a fight with Kuvira and she would've sent me to prison, but then she decided to send me to a reeducation camp. Probably because of something to do with my family." Kotori explained.

"Whose your family?" Bolin asked. "Well, like I said I don't have any siblings, no parents currently, but my grandfather was Sokka." Kotori replied. "Like the Sokka?" Bolin asked gesturing a boomerang. "Yeah." Kotori laughed. "I didn't know him very we'll, I was young. But I do remember him telling stories about him and all the adventures he went of with avatar Aang. He told me about the city he and his friends help make. Which was Republic City. He told me lots about Toph, Katara, Zuko, Aang and other legendary people. It was nice, I just wish I was old enough to remember it like I would have if he told me now." Kotori sighed.

"I still think that's pretty awesome... Wait, if you're Sokka's granddaughter, and Katara is Sokka's sister, and Katara is Tenzin's mom, then Tenzin is your second uncle?!" Bolin concluded. "Uhhh sure... I guess... Uhhh... Whose Tenzin?" Kotori asked. "Big leader in Republic City? Air bender? Big blue arrow on his head?" Bolin asked. "That Tenzin?!" Kotori asked. "Yeah." Bolin stated.

"Anyway... Back to the whole lava bending thing, I'll have to take care of some stuff. I'll meet you at the big fountain in the middle of town after I get everything worked out. Then we can plan your training." Bolin planned. "Okay. Sounds good. I've got some catching up with some old friends too." Kotori agreed.
