Chapter 11: Bittersweet Reunion

The small boat hit the dock of Republic City. They all unloaded and Kotori and Bolin started walking. They came to the point their paths parted. "Meet me at the fountain in two hours or so." Bolin said. "Alright." Kotori smiled. She turned around and started on her own way. She walked down the familiar streets until she came to a large building. She walked up the steps and stood on the porch.

She took a deep breath and knocked on the door, and waited. The door creaked open and in front of Kotori stood a tall boy around her age. He had brown hair and brown eyes. For a moment, the two just stared at each other. A small crooked smile worked it's way onto Kotori's face. "Kotori." He finally said. And stepped out the door to hug her.

His arms wrapped around her and Kotori cast her arms around him also. They parted and Kotori took a step back. Her green eyes met his, "Hey Jett." Kotori said, tears pricking her eyes. Jett looked at Kotori curiously. "What happened to you?" Jett asked. Kotori looked down at herself. "Aaaahh lot. Actually." Kotori replied. "Ya know what? You can tell me later. Would you like to come in?" Jett invited. "I'd love to." Kotori accepted.

Jett took her into the dining room and severed Kotori some tea. "So, how long will you be here?" Jett asked. "Like here here? Or Republic City?" Kotori asked. "Uhh both." Jett answered. "Well, I have some stuff to take care of in two hours, and I probably won't be in Republic City long." Kotori answered. "Why not?" Jett asked. "Because, I'm going to be helping the Avatar with Kuvira in anyway I can." Kotori answered.

"Oh... Well, now that I know what you're going to do, tell me what you've done. You've been gone about two years. I'm sure you've got something to tell." Jett asked. "Well. I'll start when Kuvira came to my town. She wanted us to bow to her. Saying we agree to her terms. Which I did not do. She sent me to a reeducation camp. She kept me in a metal box so I could not get out. It fell off the train and a bunch of escapees from reeducation camps got me out.

They offered to let me join them, but I stupidly said no. I went off by myself and got caught. I escaped, then got caught again. Then, Bolin and the other escapees came through where I was being held. They did know I was there, but Bolin cast lava over the whole building! It started melting through my cell wall and would've burned me to death, but guess what? I'm a lava bender!!!" "Excuse me, what?" Jett asked. "Yeah, and then we road this trashy boat to Republic City and here I am!" Kotori finished. "So you can bend lava?!" Jett asked. "Yup!" Kotori squealed overly excited.

"Can you show me?" Jett asked. "Maybe later, but I'm still new at it and I don't want to hurt anyone." Kotori explained. "Oh." Jett said. Kotori stayed an hour and a half, talking with Jett and his family. She had left some clothes there and changed into them. The two hours were over and Kotori waved good bye to go meet Bolin.

She waited at the fountain for twenty or thirty minutes, then saw Bolin walking towards her. "Hey, sorry I'm late. A lot has happened in these passed two hours. I found out my now ex-girl friend Opal is here, and she's super mad at me, the president is working with the other world leaders to address Kuvira, Mako and Korra forgive me though." Bolin huffed. "Speaking of Mako and Korra, when you do figure out how you'll deal with Kuvira, I'm coming with you. What Kuvira's doing is wrong and I want to help take her down." Kotori expressed.

"Well, I'm sure they can't say no to help but-" "no buts Bolin. This is something I need to do." Kotori said, their green eyes meeting. "Well..." Bolin sighed. "Okay." He agreed. "Thank you!" Kotori squealed, launching into a hug, which he returned.

"Anyway, about training?" Kotori asked. "Oh yeah... About training... I'll have to post phone your first lesson to to marrow or the next day. I have some things I need to take care of." Bolin said. "Oh, okay." Kotori sighed. "Listen I gotta go." Bolin said. "Alight, I'll see you soon." Kotori smiled.

Kotori went back to Jett's and asked him to come keep her company while she took care of something she wouldn't talk about. Kotori and Jett walked along the edge of Republic City until she came to a island. "What are you doing at Air Temple Island?" Jett asked. They came to the front door of one of the buildings. Kotori pounded on the door and waited. "This place is huge..." Kotori said to herself, looking at the whole place.

A boy about the age of eight answered the door. "Are you guys air benders? Did you come to get a sky bison? What kind of tricks can you do?" He enthusiastically asked. "No, Were not an air benders. I would like to speak with Tenzin?" Kotori asked. "Oh. Come in." He instructed boardly.

"Daddy, someone's here to see you!" He shouted walking away. A tall man with a blue arrow on his head walked into the room. "Yes? How may I help you?" He asked. "Uhh hello, I'm a friend of Bolins', and we were taking and figured out something you should probably know..." Kotori nervously started. "Yes? What is it?" Tenzin asked. "You're my second uncle." Kotori said.

Tenzin and Jett both looked equally confused. "My grandfather was Sokka." Kotori added. "He- you- what?!" Jett asked. "But Sokka only had one daughter, and she went missing. She was not married and didn't have any children." Tenzin said. "Well, she left to the Earth Nation and married my father. They went missing together six years ago. I would've come to you, but I didn't know my grandfather well and my parents didn't ever show me my family." Kotori explained.

"Well... I'm glad you're here. I'd like you to meet your family, if they're not busy." Tenzin said, exiting the room. Kotori and Jett sat on a sofa and waited, Jett thinking hard about what he just heard.

Tenzin phoned Boomi and Kya. Then walked into the room with his family. "This is my wife Pema, my two daughters Jinora and Ikki, and my two sons Meelo and Rohan." Tenzin introduced. "This is Kotori, granddaughter of Sokka." Tenzin smiled. "And whose that guy?!" Meelo asked, pointing to Jett.

"This is my friend Jett." Kotori laughed. "Listen, I called my brother Boomi and sister Kya. I'm sure they'd love to meet you, if you don't mind waiting." Tenzin offered. "I wouldn't mind at all." Kotori replied. "And I'm sure my mother would love to see you some time." Tenzin added.
