"Why can't we go out of the nest?" Moonkit heard her literate, Blackkit hollered.

"Because I don't want you kits to leave Moonkit all on her own, she hasn't opened her eyes yet." She heard her mother meow softly to her two kits.

"Why can't she just open her eyes already, we'll be in this tail prison forever!" Ashkit meowed angrily.

"She'll open her eyes when she's ready," Ravenheart whispered.

I'll open my eyes when I'm ready! Moonkit thought. She felt the urge to open her little eyes so that her littermates could run around outside the tail prison, though she wanted to sleep forever.

"She's opening her eyes!" Ashkit squeaked in excitement. Moonkit could see sudden brightness in the world. This was amazing.

"Wow!" She squeaked, looking around the cosy nursery. Rays of sunlight seeped through the cracks on the nursery roof, and a large rock stood near the entrance.

"If you opened your eyes sooner, you would have enjoyed it a bit sooner!" Blackkit raged.

"Blackkit, don't be rude to your sister." Their mother scolded. Dawnkit immediately lowered his head and muttered a sorry. Their mother's tail was lifted, and the kits were free. "Now be kind, and go play." They all hurried out while their little paws had the first feel of solid ground. They ran around the nursery, scenting every corner. Skypaw smelt so many new scents while Ravenheart purred in happiness.

"The first one up the rock wins!" The kits ran for the rock and tiny claws tried to scramble up, but their strong efforts to claw up the humongous rock was just not enough. Moonkit was determined to get on the rock, unsheathing claws and her digging into the rock.

"Don't fall!" Moonkit's mother warned as she let out a mrrow of laughter.

"We won't!" Moonkit replied. She plopped back down onto the ground.

"What did you do that for, Cleankit ?" Blackkit insulted playfully.

"You'll see when I get to the top of the rock!" Skykit defended and leapt hard, and just using a small bounce on the side of the rock, she got a grip of the top of the slippery rock and managed to use her hind legs to scramble to the top of the rock.

"Fine! You win! Sorry for calling you a Cleankit." Blackkit lashed his tail angrily while making an apologetic tone. That's more like it! Moonkit thought, raising her head high in satisfaction. Her glance changed direction and faced Ashkit, who was also lashing her tail in annoyance. Blackkit also moved his focus to face Ashkit.

"Fine. You win. You did get to the top of the Rock." Ashkit meowed in annoyance, Moonpaw but she was very determined. Moonpaw lifted her head once more and tried to make a mark on the rock to mark her Victory. Her tiny claws barely made a thing, but at least it was a mark.

"Look at my little kits, acting like Warriors already!" Moonpaw's mum praised her and her littermates. Moonpaw acted like she didn't hear, and kept on playing around, and so did her littermates.

"Do I get any reward?" Moonpaw asked, hoping her efforts were for something. She did use all of her energy to get to the top of the rock. She would be disappointed if she didn't, after all, she did make a small mark. She heard pawsteps approaching the nursery, who could this be? She had not met any of the other kits yet. She did not know anyone but her littermates. "Who is that?" Moonpaw asked.

"It's Lionstripe! He came back from the forest!" Ashkit meowed excitedly, she could not wait till she was old enough to dig her claws into the forest floor, climb up the great rocks and lay in the sun. That would be so cool.

"What was the forest like?" Blackkit asked as soon as Lionstripe put a paw in. "Did you meet badgers or foxes?"

"Don't be silly, I've only battled a badger one in my life! Ravenheart! Moonkit opened her eyes and I've missed it all!" Lionstripe meowed while settling next to Ravenheart. Who was this cat? And why was he curling up next to my mother?

"Moonkit, come meet your father." My father? I never knew I had a father. I bounded to him and plunged into the nest. I curled up against his furry pelt. She felt his warm energy spread through my body as she closed her eyes.

"Come on kits, it's time for your nap!" Ravenheart called to her kits.

"But mum, we've only just started playing!" Blackkit complained.

"I'll tell you the story of how I chased away a badger!" Lionstipe meowed and Blackkit and Ashkit immediately chased over to the nest and settled in for the story. Moonkit could not be more comfortable under her father's pelt. She was hidden from other cats' eyes, but she could still hear and see the world outside of the nest and orange and black pelt.

Lionstripe told the kits how he was on a hunting patrol. "It seemed like a normal day, and I was in his last moon of apprenticeship, while I was hunting a plump vole when the patrol heard a badger howl. There was a badger, and soon afterwards the badger was in front of us. I was very afraid." The kits gasped in terror, while Lionstripe continued.

"I'd never thought you would get afraid!" Ashkit pointed out.

"Sometimes I do get scared Ashkit, the badger was very humongous, and give us a hiss. We knew this meant battle and started to fight. Climbed onto the badgers back and scratched it furiously. The badger yowled in pain, and I bit into its hind leg. The badger turned around at me, hissed at me, and started battling me." The kits gasped again, this time in even more terror. "I tried to hit his blind spot, but missed. I gave him a little strike on the nose, a mark which would last forever. I felt triumph, but celebrated too early. The badger gave me a strike, and the last thing I heard was "Lionpaw!" Then I blacked out." The kits were shivering in terror but felt that their father was so strong. "I'll tell you the rest after you wake up from your nap."

The kit's head dropped and curled into their mother and father. The others fell asleep quickly but Moonpaw didn't, she just could not sleep. She acted like she was asleep, just so she could hear what mother and father would meow about.

Lionstripe muttered to Ravenheart. "Don't ever tell Ashkit or Moonkit till we both die."

Hey guys! Liking the long chapters? Do get enough of the last line, because you won't find out what that means till the second or third book! This is the start of the new book, hope you like it! I know I'm working on three books at a time, but why can't I -.-? By the way, I keep mentioning this writer in my books, but @Kaylin_WC was who inspired me to write this! Thank you Kaylin_WC! Also to avoid confusion, Cleanpaw is the saying that a cat really obedient and Cleankit means the same thing but to a kit.
