Moonpaw arrived at the herb patch ready to head into the cave. She looks at the dark entrance, unwilling to go in. The cave looked wet, and she knew it wasn't going to be pleasant.
Cloudheart's tail rippled, and so Moonpaw went in. Underneath her paws, it was getting more wet every step of the way. She could feel the dirt slowly slipping away into mud, but she knew that after this area there would be a river and clean stone. She had heard stories anyways. The mud was getting thicker and it was harder to walk. Cloudheart was still leading the way. The air was moist and she could not bear drowning in mud anymore.
The mud had gone lighter and lighter, as she could see a small piece of light. Moving her way along slowly they had finally gotten through and was in the cave. The cave was dim, Moonpaw could see everything that Mottledapple said. A small street with a pond, clean rock, moss and vines on the walls.
Cloudheart nodded, and so Moonpaw got to work collecting moss and placing it in pile on the rock, half her body was still muddy, and she died to clean it, but she knew once she got out she would bee muddy again. She tore off moss from the walls, slowly and carefully, she remembered that Ravenheart telling her not to grab the whole moss off, keeping some on so that it would keep growing.
The walls were slowly shredded piece by piece, as the pile got larger as well. She had no idea what the time was, only dimness was in sight. She heard mud shift, and so did Cloudheart. Her mentor headed over to the cave entrance, peeping to see if she could see any cat.
"Skylight sent a patrol!" Cloudheart meowed. She headed over to her mentor.
"We've came to help!" Meowed Brightflame, with a patrol of Hawkfeather, Blackpaw and Hazelfern.
"Swiftstar trusts you to lean your own patrols already." Moonpaw joked. Cloudheart flicked his and placed it on Moonpaw's mouth, telling her to shut up.
"Okay let's get to it!" Cloudheart meowed, keeping his tail on Moonpaw. Brightflame let out a mrrow of laughter, and they started to pick the moss, having a full wall more to do. Cloudheart lifted her tail off. Moonpaw dropped her tail in embarrassment and got to work.
The task was done in a heartbeat, and the next step was to get the moss out of the cave and back to the camp. There was more than to be carried by the six cats but they headed out anyways. Brightflame lead, followed by Cloudheart and Moonpaw. Her jaws were full of moss, and they headed back up the muddy trail, one step of the time. Repeating, they managed to get all the moss out, and by the time it was out, it was Sunhigh. The cats all looked at Brightflame for an order.
"Let's carry this back to the camp then." Brightflame meowed, and they all took their share of moss, leaping back to the camp. Moonpaw legs were stretching long, going as fast as she could. She followed along with the patrol, with her surroundings changing rapidly. One moment she is is near the river, and the next darkness covers her with trees.
They travelled across the forest ground, finally reaching the camp. They dropped off the moss in the medicine den, letting the medicine cats sort it out in case of thorns or if there is some mud. She watched as Birghtflame went out of the den, unsure why, while the patrol stayed in the den. She headed towards Ashpaw, stroking her spine so that Ashpaw would notice Moonpaw.
"Moonpaw!" Ashpaw meowed as she collected dried herbs. Their tails twirled together as the two she-cats pelts rubbed against each other. She felt something so right about feeling the warmth of her sister, even though she smelled like herbs, and even though the den smelt like herbs, even though it was barely two days since she had slept with Ashpaw, it somehow felt like Moons.
"Sharpmist! Sparrowfur! Rainfrost! Join Brightflame's Moss patrol!" A shout of Skylight untwirled the tails. Moonpaw nodded at Ashpaw and the patrol quickly left the den. She glanced into the camp, an empty clearing, typical.
Brightflame quickly set off, followed by cats of all colours. They quickly set off back the same path, in chatter and meows. She wondered how the cats could breathe while running, she would slow down and get left behind. She only just made a apprentice two sunrises ago, how would she ever keep up with a speedy bunch of warriors.
"You know the drill!" She was amazed at a one-sunrise warrior leading nine warrior patrol, most patrols were less than five warriors! Each cat went quickly, picking moss and running along. Brightflame watched as the cat took their moss and went off. She followed the line, picking her moss and heading off.
Into the run, she saw Brightflame leap past her to take the lead. How in Silverpelt? She thought. Brightflame was the fastest cat she had ever seen!
They arrived at the camp, dropping off their moss in the medicine den, and headed off once more. The patrol continued until Sundown and and Moonpaw was ready to take a great big rest.
"Care to share?" Moonpaw asked Blackpaw. He nodded while his mouth was full of a pigeon. Moonpaw ate up, she knew that sooner or later it was going leaf-fall, and there was not going to be too much prey to share.
The sky soon became dark, Moonpaw was ready to sleep in her new nest with fresh moss, and meet Starclan.
