"Brightflame. Starclan honours your bravery, and we welcome you as a full warrior of Sunclan." She saw Brightflame blink a thank you at the leader and took her place.
"Cinderclaw! Brightflame! Cinderclaw! Brightflame!" The clan chanted, and so did Moonpaw. She wondered when she would become a warrior.
"Clan dismissed!"Swiftstar meowed while the three cats hopped off the rock. She saw many cats go to congratulate Brightflame and Cinderclaw, but she figured that Brightflame would come and greet her in the apprentice's den. She headed over to the den, looking at two nests gone missing, and realised that today the den would be all hers and Blackpaw's.
A meow scared Moonpaw. "Hello, apprentice!" Moonpaw turned around to find Brightflame talking to her.
"Hey! You were an apprentice not long ago!" Moonpaw protested jokingly.
"Well now I'm a warrior, so you better listen to me!" Brightflame meowed. "I'm going to prepare for my vigil, hope you like the den to yourselves!" Brightflame touched noeses with Moonpaw, and just like that, they separated.
She curled up in her nest, letting the whole clearing noises fade away. She hoped she would dream tonight, maybe something interesting like eating a plump vole, or maybe attacking in her first battle.
Her thoughts slowly slipped away. In a heartbeat, she was in the moor, and it was sunset. She looked around. It was just endless moor, no trees, no animals, just wind and moor. Her paws carried her forward, not knowing what she was going to. She thought that this must be Breezeclan territory, and that she was not allowed here, but her paws did not stop, but kept moving forward in curiosity.
She saw a cat in the distance, just faintly, misty. Her paws took her running towards the cat, and she did not know why. Her paws had a mind of its own, as the misty warrior got closer and closer. It felt like forever, running across the moor, and she did not know why her paws were doing it. She ran closer and closer and stopped in front of the cat.
"You are in Starclan, Moonpaw, dreaming." The ginger cat said.
"In Starclan, again?" Moonpaw meowed, interested. What was the cat going to tell her about this time?
"Yes, Moonpaw, you must understand!" The ginger cat told her. This time the cat was much more social but still misty. Why is Starclan always so hard? She wished that Starclan could just tell clans what anything meant! Not just let cats guess forever what is going to happen, and never tell them anything but clues! Why is Starclan so hard?
"Understand what!" Moonpaw meowed lashing her tail, in her dreams. She was confused but angry. Questions start to come to her mind. Did her brother also have these dreams? Did everyone in the clan have dreams from Starclan?
"The Claw of the Moon will protect the Sun from Blackness." The ginger cat meowed, as a grey cat emerged. Moonpaw looked at the grey warrior, the cat seemed familiar, like she had seen the same grey pelt before.
"You must be wondering who we are now." The misty warrior meowed. "I am Windstar, and this is Eaglestripe. Welcome to Starclan." Moonpaw was in shock, she had heard the stories of Windstar and Eaglestripe, how the two leaders had help the clan survive the Winter of Greencough, when Amberleaf was sick from it.
"But why me? Why have you guys let me dream and not Blackpaw? Why not Ashpaw? Ashpaw is a medicine cat! Why not her?" Moonpaw growled in annoyment. Though the misty cats were still calm, Moonpaw was filled with anger and frustration.
"Moonpaw, you are special." Eaglestrike meowed softly, Moonpaw was still in frustration. She felt a fire burning through her body. The anger burned her inside. She saw the Starclan cats eyes change into a stricter look.
"Moonpaw, you were sent on a life-long mission, and all you can do is to keep going." Windpaw meowed, but before Moonpaw could protest, she started again. "If your leader sent you on a mission, would you protest?"
"I-I guess not." Moonpaw meowed.
"Then why protest?" Windstar meowed. Moonpaw tried to think of a reason, but the only reasons were going to be offence, and she didn't want to go to the Dark Forest. Her paws stopped shuffling, and her body stood still, waiting for the next word that was going to come out of the cat's mouth.
The Misty Warrior pawed a puddle of water. A reflection of a clan, Sunclan. The Sun was shining on the Sun Rock, it was dawn.
"We better send you back Moonpaw. We shall meet tomorrow." Windstar meowed while touching noses with Moonpaw. Slowly she faded into darkness, feeling the wet mossy nest back on her pelt. Her eyelids opened, waking up to blinding light. She shook off the water from her pelt, and headed over to the clearing, as she felt the humid wind cling onto her fur.
She watched as warriors took their share of fresh-kill, with water dripping from it. The soggy prey didn't look very appetising, but she headed over anyways, picking a small mouse just enough for her. The water dripped from it, she did not want to take a bite, though her teeth sunk into the prey, water spilling out of it onto the clearing floor.
She managed to finish the mouse without vomiting, and headed over back to her nest. She looked at the wet moss, picking it up trying to shake the water out of it. She was going to get new moss from the Moss Pond.
"We are going to be getting moss today." Cloudheart meowed, scaring Moonpaw once again. Cloudheart let out a mrrow of laughter, as Moonpaw had jumped around and faced her. Moonpaw gave a playful hiss.
"Stop scaring me!" Moonpaw protested.
"That's the only way to get you apprentices awake!" Cloudheart meowed. "Come on, we better get moving, Moss isn't going to collect itself!"
The pair set off into the forest, running alongside by side, Moonpaw just about keeping up.
