Kida-Rose POV

Pain. That was the only thing racking up my frame. The only thing running through my mind. I couldn't do this anymore I didn't want to. My eyes were blurred with tears as I shielded Dehlaney's body as best I could, away from the creatures that were surrounding us their snarls and growls drowning out my cries. I was hopeless right now, so very fucking hopeless.

I wished I was in my apartment all alone again. I wished I didn't know about all this angel demon shit. I wished everything was back to normal. Months ago I was living a boring but content life and now I'm in hell, pregnant for an incubus Prince. I miss mother, my brother, my best friend. I just wanted this all to be over and normal.

I'd passed out after I'd transported to Sinclair, I don't even know what to call it. Dehlaney had sat with me until I woke up. She never left my side. My little episode took time and soon it was nightfall. That's when they came out to play.

These leather dog like creatures, crawled up from the sides of the pit. Their eyes were a glowing green, their teeth pointed and sharp as nails. Their skin dripped with a green substance that I learned the hard way burned to the touch.

"Get behind me. They're pit crawlers." Dehlaney had immediately pushed me behind her as the things crawled up from the sides of the pit in numbers, eyes zeroed in on us.

"Are you strong enough to get that rose shit working?" she questioned in a panic. Her eyes darting to the creatures as we moved backwards slowly. I nodded slowly, looking at my shaking hands that glowed white.

"Y-yes" I stuttered.

"We're going to run. You're going to cage them in" I nodded in agreement as the crawlers got closer and closer.

"Now!" I clenched my fist, raising my arms seeing a line of branches slither from the sides of the pit, dripped with the green substance as well, creating a wall of sorts and wrapping around the creatures as Dehlaney and I dashed for dear life.

"Fuck!" Dehlaney cursed when we saw that more of the creatures were coming from the pit from all directions. She yanked me, pulling me to go faster and I obliged but it was no use they were surrounding us, snapping their teeth at us like we were their prey.

I tried my best to fend them off. Using the strength I had to grow the roots and push them away but it was no use more just kept coming. I tried and tried but they kept lunging and scraping and growling.

One lunged at Dehlaney and I heard her scream as it latched onto her leg.

"Dehlaney!" I held onto the thing, feeling like my hands were dipped in acid, growing roots and killing the thing as Dehlaney collapsed to the floor.

"D! Dehlaney!" her eyes drooped and rolled to the back of her head as she passed out and I knelt beside her, tears rolling down my cheeks as I extended my wings around us, shielding her away from the terrible things and anymore harm. At that point in time I felt nothing but helplessness, their snarls and growled echoed in my head over and over reminding me that their was nothing I could do.

There was a burning feeling on my wings and I winced knowing exactly what it was as my wings closed themselves against my back, the last of my strength disappearing in an instant. I could hear their footsteps crunching, sizzling against the path as they came closer and closer and sobs racked my body. I peaked behind my shoulder and came face to face with one of the creatures, it's glowing green eyes bored into my own and my body froze.

It's teeth dripped acid right onto my leg but it was like my body and mind had disconnected and I couldn't move no matter what I tried. Tears still ran down my face but it seemed like I had accepted that this just might be it. My body relaxed, despite my heart hammering against my rib cage. I closed my eyes and triggered my happiest memories. My mother, my father, Andre, Anna, Sinclair, with Dehlaney clutched in my arms. I welcomed the inevitable.

Sinclair POV

Love can be such a powerful thing. It can be consuming and dangerous and can turn into something so dark and demented so quickly. A keen example taken from Kendra's crazy ass. But as I sat there, with a literal heart in my heart, calm as ever; I understood her. I understood the pain and the emptiness felt from not having the person you loved there with you and the fucking crushing feeling that could trigger the need to murder someone as I just did.

My guards stared at me with worry and confusion as I sat against the wall of the cell, staring blankly at Kendra's limp body, laying in a pool of blood with not an ounce of regret or remorse flowing through my body. Arson was calm, for the first time since Kida was taken he was calm, I was calm, basking in the temporary peace.

A searing pain was racking up my back, like liquid running down the surface, burning at ten fold but I didn't have the energy to make a sound. Then it stopped, and suddenly it felt like someone had shot me in the chest. My eyes shot open as I clutched my chest, my heart constricted and I gasped, fighting to breathe. I scraped at the floor, desperately trying to bring oxygen to my lungs but it was no use. Not an ounce entered my body, the feeling in my chest multiplied and I burst into a cough until there was nothing, until it stopped.

Just like it came, it was gone. Then there was a snap, and the peace that I'd felt a while ago disappeared in an instant.

"Where's Kida?!"

"Sinclair where is the fucking connection with Kida?!"

I went numb. A broken connection with a mate could only mean one thing.

"Don't you even fucking say it."

The calmness in Arson's voice scared even me. My heart shattered and I sat there not knowing what to think, what to accept.

"Don't you dare say it"
