Lois watched from her crate, hidden safely behind the wall, as the three remaining members of the Hale pack stood their ground and waited. It hurt, seeing just the three of them. She couldn't get the thought of Erica Reyes out of her mind — Erica should have been there, standing with her pack and ready to fight. She should have been standing with her friends.
But she wasn't. Because the alpha pack had killed her.
It made Lois teary, and queasy.
They had killed Erica, and now they were trying to kill the rest of them. One by one, they wouldn't stop until they got what they wanted. Lois didn't know how this would end. Her gut said badly.
She didn't know how long she had waited, though it couldn't have been very long before Isaac had turned to her and nodded his head. Nodding back, Lois edged further out of sight and tried to slow her breathing, hoping that she wouldn't immediately give herself away. While she had wanted to fight, there was no chance that she would step into the water and survive if the power went back on and their trap was brought back to life. It would kill Lois Lane, on the spot. There wasn't much that she could do without her crossbow by her side, and so that left Lois defenceless.
Well, almost defenceless. But the only other defence that she had, Lois was incredibly sure was all in her mind.
Shortly after his signal, the door to the loft was pulled open with a metallic hum. It felt like near hours that Lois had waited, until a woman's voice sounded amongst the dripping of water droplets and Lois' staggered breaths.
