I observed Zoe carefully as she sat at the dinner table. I placed a plate of food in front of her, she looked up at me.
"Allison, really, I'm sure it's fine. I appreciate you cooking for me" She took a bite of the canned sweet peas that I fixed, I could see right through her poker face"
"You hate it don't you?" I questioned. I didn't mind if she told me the truth. I knew I couldn't cook. My mother nor father ever taught me. But I at least thought I could get canned vegetables right. "Well?"
"No, it's not....that bad. It's okay"
I laughed. "Alright" I sat across from her and watched her face in amusement, meanwhile I ordered some takeout on my phone, a meat lovers pizza.
She took a bite of the chicken that I tried to fry and immediately spit it out. "Alli, the chicken is bloody. I like my steak medium rare but...."
I laughed again. "It's alright baby girl. I'll just leave the cooking to you, I'm not sure what I was thinking. I ordered takeout. Here, clean this up and I'll go set up a movie for us"
"Okay, sure"
2.
The two of us sat on the sofa cuddled together with Zoe in my lap a blanket covering the two of us. We had turned on a romantic comedy but I don't think that either one of us was that into it. It didn't really matter though, there was a serious conversation that the two of us needed to have. I turned the television down a bit and Zoe repositioned in my lap so that she could see me.
"Babe, I think now is a good time to talk about us"
"Okay," She nodded. I could tell that she was nervous by the way she played with her hair. I held her tighter.
"So -" I paused. Where do I begin? When I had this conversation with Morgan it did not go so well, it ended with one of our biggest fights. Zoe said I could be myself. "I -" I sighed. "Would like it if you'd let me be in charge of our relationship" I looked into her eyes, she didn't look like she was ready to fight me on this, but then again she didn't look necessarily happy about it either. More curious if anything. "That means, I have the final say in everything, that means, where you go, who you hang out with, what you wear, what you do and when -"
"Basically, you want to be my mother. Why not just have a child?" Zoe questioned, innocently I'm sure, but the question kind of pissed me off.
"I don't want children, at least not right now. But this is different" I tried to explain it to her, but I just couldn't find the words.
"Different how?"
I sighed in frustration. "I - can't explain it. I just, need to be in control. At all times. It's not the same relationship between a parent and a child. With a girlfriend, it's like having that perfect person made especially for you, if you did this for me, I'd be the happiest person alive"
I could tell that Zoe was in deep thought and seriously considering my request by the look on her face. "Can we, maybe just try it out?"
"Of course" Was my immediate response, but honestly, even if Zoe didn't agree to my wants, I'd slowly manipulate her into doing whatever I wanted to anyway. That's just the way that I am.
"So, I have to do whatever you want and whatever you tell me to?" I nodded but she was no longer looking at me. "What happens if I don't? What happens if I do what I want to do?" I opened my mouth to answer but she continued before I could say a word. "Would you - Would you break up with me?" That last part was merely a whisper that I couldn't have heard if I wasn't so close to her.
"God no. Zoe, look at me" I ordered. "I know we haven't been dating that long, but I seriously want to spend the rest of my life with you. You're so perfect and beautiful, honestly, I wouldn't break up with you. I'd punish you. That's how you'll learn. That's how you'll become the perfect girlfriend for me"
