25 | Extra Baggage

Somin's POV

I didn't let Jungkook's words get to me and I still ordered everyone to redirect the mission.

We brought with us some backup and we packed what we needed for Vegas. We were at the private area of the airport now and I watched as everyone got in the plane but before I got in, Rosé tapped my shoulder.

I looked at her and she handed me a card and said, "Just in case you want to enjoy some time there, it is Vegas after all and it would be a shame if you didn't."

I smiled and said, "Thanks but we're not sure if we will have time, but I appreciate the gesture."

I placed the card in the pocket of my jeans and let Rosé go in first and I was about to get in the plane when I heard a faint shout.
I looked back and saw Jungkook with a blank face as he walked up to me and said, "I had a feeling you would need my help."

I laughed sarcastically and said, "Why would I need your help? Didn't you say that you would gladly wait around until you get the news that we all died."

He slowly approached the entrance of the plane and said, "Let me just make things clear, I came here for the others and not for you."

"Never assumed anything," I said as I got in the plane and so did he.

Everyone looked at me expectantly and Jin said, "I see what took you so long."

"The plane is about to take off," Rosé said, "Both of you should take your seats."

I nodded and took a seat only to find out that the only vacant seat for Jungkook was next to me.

To avoid interaction with his stubborn ass, I decided to close my eyes and try to sleep but my attempt was interrupted when he said, "Viper, we can still back down, we might lose a lot of lives here."

"Shut up Jungkook, there are bigger matters at hand here and if they were willing to board this plane then they are willing to lay their lives for a bigger cause," I said and he sighed then said, "Don't you care about them, these are people who's had your back for a long time, what happens when they're gone?"

"If you even think for one second that these people don't matter to me and that I'm not carrying a huge burden, then you're not the same Jeon Jungkook I grew up with," I said as I closed my eyes again, "You must have a fickle understanding of who I am."

I knew I rendered him speechless and when I heard him slump himself onto the airplane seat. I couldn't even bring myself to smirk at his defeat because I was being true to my words. This mission was carrying a heavy burden in my heart.

All my youth years I was subject to being emotionless but this wasn't what I expected when I knew I wanted to "feel" again.

Prepared to just sleep through the flight, I crossed my arms to hug myself but my eyes shot wide open when I heard a familiar voice say, "Eomma!"

I looked to where the voice came from and saw Sarang smiling widely at me. At that moment I just wanted to shout every curse word in my vocabulary. This cannot be happening. I couldn't take her back to the base because the plane already took flight.

I looked at the rest of the members of VENOM on the plane and saw equal shock.

I calmly gestured for Rosé to come over to where I was and she did so. "Do you happen to have any noise cancellation headphones or devices?"

"Well let me see," she said as she rummaged through her luggage and eventually found what I had asked for. She handed it over to me and I looked at Sarang and said, "Can you wear these for Eomma?"
