Crystal had been staring at me all day

Crystal had been staring at me all day. During class and in the hallways. Ambrosia noticed but made no real comment about it. She just looked at me and continued on with her work. Crystal hadn't paid me no mind over the past few months except for sending Kasey to spy on me. We haven't even talked since the break up and I was okay with that. I could tell she wanted to talk to me, but hadn't approached me yet.

Ambrosia, Eric, and I were in our regular spot by the library for lunch. Eric was laid out on the blanket and Ambrosia was between my legs with her head on my stomach enjoying her fried chicken she got from some Chinese place. Eric had stolen a piece and nearly got his hand chewed off. He bit the wing and sent her a playful wink.

"Eric, you touch my food again, imma smack the fuck outta you." She did not play when it came to her food and Eric was all play.

"I'd like to see you try, sugar. We still goin' to Kasey's party tomorrow?"

"Yep."

"So...how are we gonna do this?" He asked looking directly at me but she answered.

"We'll go together. It's not like we're not always together anyway. Then we just have fun. It's a party. Let's not let our problems stop us from doing that."

"You cool with that?" He asked me.

"Yeah." And I was. We were always seen together anyway, even before Ambrosia came along.

"Okay. We'll meet at my house and head from there. Whether or not you wanna get dressed at home or there is up to you." He took another bite of the wing.

"I told Derek about us." Ambrosia said out of the blue.

"Why the hell would you do that, sugar?"

"He asked if I was dating one of you. I know we're supposed to be keeping it a secret, but he's my brother and we talk. I didn't want to lie."

"It's cool." I said.

"Really?"

"Yeah. I don't mind you telling your family. I just...need a little time with everything else."

"And we can handle that. I'm just glad you know how I feel now. If I had told you back in middle school we probably wouldn't be friends now. I'm willing to wait as long as it takes." Middle school?

"You've wanted me since middle school, Eric?"

"Well, yeah." He blushed. Aww. "Soon as I realized I was into guys you were startin' to look different to me. It was times where I had to leave so you wouldn't see how hard I was. And then over time those feelings grew into something else." He looked down at the naked bones between his fingers.

All this time we'd been friends I never knew he was bi let alone I was at the center of his attraction. The thought hurt me and aroused me at the same time. Looking at him now I could really see how much this had been weighing on him.
