Darkness was something Ambrosia knew far too well. From childhood bullying to the loss of her parents, it seemed she couldn't escape it. She hid her outgoing personality from the world. Her only real happiness came from...

I woke up this morning wondering if it was all a dream or not. But it was all too vivid to not be real. It was just so damn weird. My crush actually talked to me and not just because of the project we have to do together.
I quickly got ready for school - and if I'm being honest, Daniel. Ana made a delicious breakfast involving my favorite fruits baked, so there was no way I could just leave. That would be very rude of me. We sat and ate for about twenty minutes until it was time for me to leave.
During the drive all I could think about was Daniel. He was my only crush and he actually talked to me. On purpose! I was excited of what today would bring. I wondered if he and Crystal talked. It didn't seem like things were going well with them and I hate to admit it - not really - that it made me happy.
I was going to my seat and I noticed a piece of paper on the seat. I picked it up and opened it. A giant smile spread across my face as I read it. Like a damn fool.
Can't wait to see you for our project.
You're actually really cool and I like you. C ya in class.
-D.
Of course, he didn't have my number so he went old school. He liked me? He liked me! This definitely was going to be a good day. It was too bad Crystal had class with us. I didn't need her glaring at me the whole time. I was so giddy until I turned and I saw Daniel... and Crystal face to face. Literally. Their faces were together. They were kissing, and it wasn't a damn peck. There was a lot of tongue action going on. I walked right pass them into class berating myself for being so fucking naïve. Of course, he wouldn't break up with her for me. I'm such a dumbass! I got my damn hopes up over a little note. God I was pathetic.
Ms. Lochett was starting her lecture when Daniel walked in and sat next to me. He greeted me, but I kept my attention on the work as much as possible. I know I was being petty for no good reason, but seeing him with her like that did hurt.
The bell rings and everyone hands in their drill. I still haven't responded to Daniel and I wasn't about to. My new name is Petty Patty today.
"Okay class," Ms. Lochett starts. "Today I want you to get into partner pairs and read chapters four through eight in your books and then put the elements on the board into the correct order. You have forty-five minutes. Begin."
The other kids got up to get their partners, while Daniel stayed with me. Damn him. Another project we gotta do together. At least this one is only a few minutes long.
"So, did you get my note?" he said.
"Uh-huh."
"Is there something wrong?"
"Nope."
"Hmm. You're lying." I just shrugged in response. "You won't even look at me. So just tell me."
