Darkness was something Ambrosia knew far too well. From childhood bullying to the loss of her parents, it seemed she couldn't escape it. She hid her outgoing personality from the world. Her only real happiness came from...

Here I was - plain old invisible Asia - getting ready for a normal college party. I didn't let my mother pick out this outfit, 'cause I knew she would try to push my boundaries. But when all was said and done I pushed my own. I settled on an olive green biker short and crop top set. I finished the whole fit off with an oversized olive bomber jacket and all black Nike Air Max 97s. I may have been showing off just a little. I texted Eric and let him know I was ready.
I walked downstairs, and Derek was in the kitchen heating up leftovers from last night. Once a week he would come over and eat up our refrigerator. Since it was usually only me and mom she would get enough for just us. She hoped that the lack of food would prompt my brother to stop leaving us with scraps, but he was a growing man, so he didn't care. None of those selfish bastards did.
"I swear to the lord above, if you eat all my M&M cookies again imma slice your Achilles tendon you hear me?" I said to him.
"Yeah I hear you, big head." He said while proceeding to take one out of the container and shove one in his mouth.
"Think I'm playing? Dad's been teaching me a lot of self-defense moves. Shit he's never even shown y'all."
"Your lying."
I crossed my arms and raised one of my eyebrows letting him know I wasn't bullshitting. He really has been showing me things since I was a girl and I was in way more danger for just having a vagina. I needed way more protection than them.
He squinted his eyes at me then slowly put away the container. He was about to start eating his leftovers then he looked back at me. His eyes glanced up in down at me in anger.
"What the fuck are you wearing?"
"Clothes, dummy." I was trying to brush him off. Out of all my brothers he was the most protective... and dangerous.
"'Clothes' my ass! Your womanlies are about to fall out."
I nearly fell out myself from laughing so hard. "Womanlies? That ain't even a word, fool!"
"I don't care what it is. I just wanna know where you think you're going in that thot fit?"
"If I wanna dress like a thot imma do it and I don't need your approval or permission. And I'm going to a party."
"A college party? By yourself?"
"No, not by myself. With some friends."
"Since when do you have friends. You don't like anyone."
"Since earlier this week."
"And what gender are these 'friends'?"
"That don't even matter." I rolled my eyes. He was being seriously irky right now.
"From your answer I can tell they're not the same gender. I know you can handle yourself so just be careful, okay?"
