"Why does she tie her hair like that?"
"Also why does she always look so scared?"
"OH gOd shE's coMing lOOk aWay SuSiE"
Ash Cobb walked through the cafeteria doors. Hair neatly parted in the middle, not one flyway in sight. Not a trace of makeup on her face. Eyebrows raised till her forehead was practically invisible, huge dark brown doe eyes. She held onto her books as if letting them go would cost her her life. She walked into Ms. Lee's class with a fat, hard bound arithmetic book, an almost-as-fat notebook book and a pink pencil pouch with a hair clutch attached to the the handle, she came and almost immediately sat down with a long list of math problems.
-"Wow is she actually studying right now?"
-"It would be nice if she'd come to speak to us, should I go to her maybe?"
-"No dude, if she wanted to talk to us she'd come herself."
-"Why is she like that?"
-"I don't know, she's been like that ever since she came to this school"
Ms. Lee was the arithmetic teacher, yeah the students of Wellshire were taught non-magic subjects as well (in fact in certain cases some were more popular than magic subjects). Ms. Lee was one of those teachers who entered class as if they were on a stealth mission to retrieve stolen gold. Unfortunately she was also the type with an inbuilt speaker system. And believe me when I tell you a stealthy teacher with a loud voice is never EVER a good combination.
She came in like a cat while the class chatted away in peace, knowing that the teacher would make a sound when she would enter. Then she screamed which made the windows rattle:
"STUDENTS I EXPECT EVERYONE TO BE SEATED IN THEIR PLACES AFTER BELL RINGS"
"How does she talk without breathing like that?" Melisa whispered
"Saying something Ms. West?" boomed and rumbled Ms. Lee.
Melissa vigorously nodded.
"Ms. Ray please take seat, I'm glad to see at least one of you in your places doing your work" she smiled a sickening sweet smile at Ash "as for the rest of you KEEP STANDING"
Ash hung head, avoided all eye contact and took her seat. She knew all eyes were on her, she knew people were suddenly mad at her for receiving the ever so glorious 'special treatment' from a teacher.
"SO" She said so loudly that poor ol' Prof Friar ,who was taking a class on alchemy and the boiling temperatures of various plants, in the next room jumped so violently that the narrow spectacles balanced on the tip of his nose fell off. Poor man had to spend a good minute searching for it in front of the class.
"so today I'm going to start the Pythagorean theorem" Ms. Lee announced "Page 306 of your text books please thank you"
There was a sound of shuffling of pages while the students stood punished and Ash sat in her place trying really really hard to disappear but also pay attention.
After an tiring day at school, it was finally evening. Ash slummed down on her bed, exhausted from the day's studying and hiding and trying to disappear. She was just going to fall asleep when she remembered that her last homework of the day was still left.
"Ah yes" she rolled her eyes and almost slid off the bed like a snake, lethargy clinging onto her limbs. Sitting down at her desk she pulled out a blueprint from her bag. "That's not it" Ash crossed out three places from the blueprint. "Three years and I still haven't found the damn spell" two more places. She slammed down her pen and put her head down on the desk, her eyes brimming with tears threatening to fall any moment. "I hate this, I hate this school, I hate the people, I hate everything".
"Happy Birthday Ms. Cobb" a very handsome voice spoke through the air vents, at least it seemed like it was speaking through the air vents but Ash was 99% sure it was inside her head. "You seem to be in some kind of peril. Hahaha don't worry, take the day off today. It is your birthday after all" Ash's eyes widened, both in surprise but mostly in horror. The voice seemed to have read her and and said "Oh please for goodness sake, I'm not a monster, I like birthdays." "But-" Ash began in a hurry to clarify her doubts. "No buts Ms. Ray, today is after all the day I created you" Ash smiled to the voice "I gave you my blood, my emotions, intelligence and now I give you this" a small box of chocolates showed up on her desk. Ash gave off a small laugh and clapped her hands "Chocolates? Are those chocolates? Thank you so much Mr Irv-" Ash's smiling grew larger and larger her excitement spilling, eyes shining. She loved chocolates. No one ever bought her any, she didn't have any friends, neither did she have a family, the voice was everyone she'd ever known and anyone she would ever know.
"They'll help you find the spell" the voice said suddenly cutting her off mid sentence "take one and go looking for the spell tomorrow. If you fail to find the spell by the end of two days. Consider Friday the end of your mortal journey" Ash looked at the calender sitting on her table the smile fading at a fast pace. "Those chocolates will show you the sources of immense energy. Find the goddamn spell and bring it to me. I'm running out of patience and time" and with a very dusty gust of wind the voice disappeared.
"Hello?" "Are you still here?" Ash sat back in her chair, those feelings of hopelessness and dread filling her up again. "It would be nice to receive some actual chocolate though." Sighing she leaned back further "also it would've been nice to receive the find-the-energy chocolates earlier, dude's so cheap I swear to god." She picked up the box and threw it at the wall "I hate you" she said through her clenched teeth tears stinging her eyes "I hate you so much you make me wish I was never created" and she slumped back on her chair.
"Friday."
