❄️🔥Chapter 23: That Memory🔥❄️

My lungs ached at the lack of air. My eyes were closed, difficult to open, along with a heavy pressure on top of my chest.

I couldn't move, I couldn't breathe.

I didn't know what was happening!

"(y/n)!!!" My eyes shot open at a voice, I voice I hadn't heard in so many years..

My mother..

The room I was in was covered in flames, but I didn't feel any of its heat. However, there was a large piece of wood on me, that's what stopped me from moving.

There was a panicked expression on my mom's face as she ran over to me, using her arm to protect her face from the flames.

"M- mom?!"

"It's okay, baby, we're gonna get you out of here, don't worry!!"

As she tried to push the wood off of me, something in my head clicked, making my eyes grow wide as I looked around.

This day.. I remember..

Was this a dream? It sure as heck didn't feel like it..

But knowing I had traveled to a parallel universe, maybe this wasn't a dream at all, maybe I had traveled back in time!

Maybe I could save my mom!

She had managed to take the wood off, picking me up in her arms. "C'mon, let's get you out!"

This was all too familiar, and I hated the way it made me feel..

Pain...

Anger...

Guilt...

I tightened my grip around my mom, using what little energy I had to keep the flames away from us.

It wasn't enough..

A bunched if rubble began to fall, only to leave a small gap for a child's body. She placed me on the ground, cupping my face and giving a warm smile, even through the tears.

"(y/n), I need you to go through that hole and leave the house, okay?"

"No!! I'm not leaving you again!!"

I couldn't stop the tears rolling down my own face as she placed a kiss on my forehead. "I'll be fine, my little flame.. But promise me one thing.."

Biting my lip to stop sobs from getting out, I looked up at her. Her smile was always so kind, as genuine as I remember.

"Promise me your brother and you will take care of each other no matter what.. And that no matter what happens, no matter the problems in your way, you'll always be together.."

Luke..

I knew he didn't show it, or more so, he tried to avoid it, but losing Mom was the worst thing he ever went through..

"I.. I-I promise.."

She gave me one last hug before nodding for me to go, but I wanted to stay. I wanted to find another way!

But.. I didn't have the time..

Before I could do anything else, the house house was just one big flame, and the only place that wasn't on fire was the exact spot I stood.

And there was no sign of my mother..

"Mom?!?" I tried to run into the flames, but it didn't do any good, I was basically blind at this point.

"MOM!!!"

I sat up as I came back to reality. I must've yelled out loud because Dipper immediately woke up after. My hand rested on my chest as I tried to steady my breathing, then soon felt Dipper's arm around me.

"Hey..! Hey.. it's okay.."

I could feel tears stinging in my eyes as he pulled my close to his chest. "I-I'm sorry, I- I just-"

"It's alright, (y/n).. Don't worry.."

He kept me close for a while, letting me calm down at my own pace. After a while, I pulled away, taking a deep breath. "You okay..?"

"Y-Yeah..."

"May I ask what happened..?"

"I just... h-had some unwanted memories..."

I didn't say anything else, and he figured I didn't want to talk about it so he didn't ask. After our moment, I had fallen asleep in his arms, and he let me sleep on his bed.

"I'm sorry for waking you up..."

"It's alright, there are other nights, right..?" He let out a small chuckle, making me laugh a bit.

My expression quickly fell once more as I thought of the memory. I then felt his hand over mine, making my cheeks heat up as I looked up at him. "Hey, I know you don't want to talk about what happened now, but if you ever do in the future, I'm always free to listen.."

I stayed quiet for a bit before resting my head on his shoulder. "I know... I'm just... a-afraid..."

"Afraid of what..?"

"Of what you'll think of me after..."

"(y/n), I already told you.. Nothing you could've said or done will every change how I think of you.." He gently cupped my face, a genuine smile on his. "I love you... Both as my best friend and more..."

My cheeks were red as I stared up at him, a smile soon growing on my face. "Then... you'd never hate me...?"

"Never in my entire life.."

I thought for a while; I trusted Dipper, more than anyone. After a long while of thinking, I looked up at him again. "Well..."
