~~~~~~~~~Dipper's POV~~~~~~~~~
(y/n) stared at her hands, and I could see the tears forming in her eyes.
I was ready to listen, ready to comfort her through whatever trauma she has been through, or is going through.
"I-I have powers."
My eyes widened a bit as the words bursted out of her; she didn't look at me, keeping her gaze down. "L-Luke and I.. We b-both have powers.. He has ice powers, and I-I have fire powers.."
I thought for a while, not wanting to say anything that could make her feel bad. "That does explain some things.. And you didn't want to tell us because you thought we'd hate you..?"
She nodded, biting her lip. "I-I'm dangerous to be around, Dipper.."
"Hey.." I gently placed my hand over hers. "You're not dangerous.. All you've ever done since we've met you is protect us.."
"I am.." She stayed quiet for a few seconds, soon looking up at me with tears running down her face. "I-I was eight when it happened.. Back then, I didn't really know about the consequences of using my abilities.. O-or more specifically, I didn't care about them.."
Her fingers fiddled with each other as she took a deep breath. "My parents would always tell us to be careful, to not use them inside the house.. Even Luke would often tell me not to do something.. I never listened.. I-instead, I'd use them more and more every day, until- ..."
Another pause, swallowing back a sob. " ... u-until the small fire I had made burned the house down..." I h-had gotten trapped under a large piece of wood, and m-my mother helped me out, trying to get me to safely... ... Sh-She didn't make it..."
My heart had sunk to the pit of my stomach, aching at what I had heard. I could only listen as she vented, the weight that was being lifted off of her shoulders almost visible.
"M-my dad was never the same after that... H-he drank a lot, started doing a lot of drugs, h-he neglected us for months until he just got tired of having us around and through us out of the house, blaming us for all that happened... E-even though Luke never did anything wrong..."
"And you've been on your own ever since...?"
She nodded. "I-I made a promise to Mom that we'd always have each others' backs, no matter what... E-even if I don't deserve his protection..." Once again, she looked up at me. "I-I know he says he cares about me, that I'm the only one he's had for years, but... I-I've already caused him so much pain, heh... S-sometimes I- ..."
"... you what...?"
"... s-sometimes I wish I had been the one to die in the fire, even though flames can't hurt me... That way my mom would still be alive... That way I'd get what I deserved in the first place..."
My eyes widened a little, but I stayed quiet, continuing to listen.
She sniffled. "We were homeless for a long while, and that's when we met Juny... He took us in, gave us food, water, a roof over our heads, some nice beds... He gave us a chance to rebuild our lives, and we eventually got some small jobs to pay for ourselves..."
Wiping some of her tears away, she let out a shaky sigh. "Long story short: we moved out of the state for a few years, and came back here for a brand new life..."
I had no idea they had both been through so much... I didn't know what to say, what to do, was there anything to do...?
"... I'm really sorry you've had to go through all that..."
"P-please, don't be... None of it was your fault..."
"Still..." I reached over, gently cupping her face as I wiped the rest of her tears away with my thumb. "As much as you may think it, none of it was your fault... You were just a kid, who was doing what all kids do... Your mom saved you because she loved you, and she still does..."
Her bright (e/c) eyes stared into mine, and I could see the small glimmers of hope in them, even through all the pain.
I placed a small kiss on her forehead, seeing her cheeks grow a soft pink. "You're an amazing person, (y/n)... I know that for a fact..."
"... y-you really mean that...?"
"Mhm..."
She stared at me for a few seconds, a few more tears escaping her eyes before she threw her arms around me in a hug, burying her face in my chest.
I was a bit surprised at the action, but hugged her back, resting my head on hers. I wanted to be there for her, to comfort her, as much as I could..
She sniffed once more, tightening her grip around me. "W-What did I do to d-deserve you..."
Snuggling against her head, I gave her a small smile. "Maybe we both just got lucky..."
A small giggle escaped her lips, making my cheeks grow pink. "Really lucky..."
She soon looked down at my stomach, then back up at me. "How are your wounds, by the way...?"
"Huh..? Oh, I barely feel them anymore.."
"At least that means they're healing..."
That brought a thought to my mind.. "If you have fire powers.. Then the (y/n) that saved me in the other dimension, that was you, wasn't it..?"
She stayed quiet for a while, then nodded. She grew a little darker when I kissed her head, looking up at me as I smiled. "Thank you for that.."
Smiling back, she snuggled against my neck. "I-I couldn't let them hurt you..."
We stayed in each others' arms for a while, when she spoke again, looking at my chest. "Dipper...?"
"Yeah..?"
"What I said yesterday, a-about not being able to be together...? C-can we pretend that never happened...?" She gently grabbed my hand, biting her lip. "I-I'd like to give us a try..."
I felt my face grow darker, a smile growing on my face as I tangled my fingers with hers. "I'd like that too..."
She leaned up, gently kissing my cheek with a smile.
I really loved her... with all my heart...
And I'll protect her no matter what...
