{3} The Hospital Room

As Taehyung enters into the room again he spots my shivering figure curled up and facing the opposite direction.

He comes closer to the bed and climbs under the covers with me, staring intently at my back, wondering if it would be weird to offer his body heat to me.

'U-uh um' I stutter out as he pushes his chest against my back.

'I know it's weird that we only just met and we are in the same bed, but please just let me help you.'

I nod gently still slightly scared at the fact that he could take advantage of me at any second.

'If you feel uncomfortable just tell me ok? I won't do anything your not happy with.'

'Okay' I say as he tucks his head into the back of my neck and softly places his arms around me.

My eyes finally close and my mind goes to sleep in his warm embrace.

My eyes flutter open as the light from the small window shines in. The sound of the bathroom tap filling up a cup further wakes me up.

I sit up gently as I realised Taehyung isn't beside me.

'Hey, how are you feeling?' He asks approaching me with a cup which he hands to me.

I take it carefully and smile a little. 'I'm okay just a little shocked I guess.'

'Understandably. It must be scary coming here alone. I had my dad so I was okay but I can only imagine how shaken up you must feel right now.'

I nod and give a sad smile as he gently rubs my back.

'What time is it?' I ask before taking a sip of the water.

'It's 7:30, so we have 30 minutes until we need to be downstairs.'

I nod again, take another sip, place the cup on the bedside table and attempt to stand up.

'Woah woah, take it slowly sweetheart.' Taehyung says as I jump out of bed.

I laugh quietly and reply 'I'm a fast healer.' Before going in the bathroom to change my clothes.

Taehyung was already changed and so after 25 minutes we went outside the room and down to the foyer where Mr Kim and the other survivors were.

Taehyung kept close to me in a protective manor as a few men behind us were staring at me in an uncomfortable way.

I guess they took this coupling thing as an invite to f*ck everything they could and not be stopped by any law or police officer like before in society.

Taehyung's hand made its way round my waist as he quickly shot the guys behind a challenging look which shook them up considering the fact that Taehyung is so much taller then them.

Mr Kim started to speak to everyone and for some reason I felt safe with Taehyung.

Whether it was his height or his muscles I don't know.

Mr Kim's words broke me out of my thoughts. 'Morning everyone. Today we will be getting each work sector set up and running. The hunters, engineers and farmers I would like out side to talk to separately while the medical team should go to the ward to our left...'

He rambled on about what the other jobs should do but he suddenly caught my attention by adding something.

'And before you leave...we need to work as a community here so I inspect everyone to follow all laws that were in place before and I have put in a new rule for you all, no work, no food. I don't like slackers and in this new world we need to stick together.'

And with that he left to go outside.

Taehyung grabs my attention quickly. 'Look after yourself sweetheart, okay?'

I nod and smile as he went of outside to join the hunters.

While we were talking this morning , he explained that their job was to search for more supplies and food in the nearby areas.

I walk towards the ward and spot only 2 others there with me.

We look around in confusion as we are the only ones there.

Suddenly the women from yesterday approaches us. 'Miss Y/N, Mr Kim has put you in charge of this job sector. He trusts you will do the best job.'

She goes off again leaving me kind of shocked.

I turn to the other 2 people. 'So what experience do you guys have in the medical field?' I ask them.

'Well I was a teacher so I knew basic first aid.' Oh god I say to myself.

I turn to the other when she says. 'I was a dentist.' I sigh heavily knowing I am the only qualified person left living who can treat anyone.

'Well... I guess I will just have to teach you.' I say smiling and trying to find the hope in this situation.

I had done the same thing all throughout the pandemic; just smiled and carried on.

The day was slow and we only took a short lunch break in between checking out the medical equipment, setting everything up and me beginning to teach them how to treat the most likely injuries to come up.

But finally, the day was coming to an end and the sun was beginning to set.

People from all the job sectors started to return and all sit in the 'great hall' which was near the foyer.

It contained vast amounts of make-shift tables and chairs, as well as a big table that remained in front of a huge stock of collected food.

I begin to see a queue form and I get the feeling that we all have to line up for our limited portion of food.

Me and the other two girls, who I find out to be called Lily and Jess, leave the medical block and walk together while talking about our previous lives.

'I better go find my couple' Jess the teacher says to us. 'Me too, I will catch up with you two tomorrow.'

We day our goodbyes and after me and Jess part ways to go find our couples while Lily, who didn't have one, went straight to the food being served.

Lily didn't have a couple because she was a lesbian and the leaders decided to take a modern approach to this repopulating thing and decided to not force anyone who is gay or lesbian to couple with someone of the opposite gender.

It didn't take long for me to spot Taehyung entering the building. I speed walk towards him but as I get closer I feel something is off...
