Chapter Six

Laying next to Sapphire's sleeping figure i am so amazed and grateful for her, Aeliana had control of Sapphire's body when she went after Serena. Alex wasn't happy about Aeliana which he voiced, almost causing Aeliana to snap at him, but as it seems she has a soft spot for me thankfully, she did threaten to bite me if i got in the way but i consider that a rather mild threat considering the damage she could easily inflict. A soft knock on the door has me racing to it, opening it slightly, just enough to see Lara's face in the gap.

"How is she?" She asks, trying to get a look but i block her sight, slipping out of the bedroom and closing the door softly.

"She's exhausted."

"Can she bring Serena back?"

"I dont know."

"I'll get Max to make her some food and leave it outside for her, if thats okay?" She asks softly, her hand cupping my cheek.

"Thank you Lara, can you try and get Alex to feed, hes getting weaker and almost attacked us when we went near Serena."

"I fear he wont feed until Serena is back with us." I drop my head having come to the same conclusion.

"Sleep well brother." Lara sighs, heading away again.

"You too little sister." I reply before heading back to Sapphire's side, feeling the suns journey into the sky as my limbs grow heavy. Laying next to Sapphire i pull her against my chest, reveling in the feel of her soft warm body against mine, a smile on my lips as i fall into the deep sleep of my kind. I feel the moment the sun sinks beneath the horizon, i awaken to an empty bed, jolting up i listen for any signs of Sapphire but i hear none. Racing from the room i head to the kitchen where my breath leaves my lungs in a rush as i see Yasmin and Sapphire racing around in the garden out the back, kicking a ball, Sapphire laughing is a sight i will never get out of my mind, she is resplendent. Byron and Lara appear next to me, watching their adopted daughter playing with my mate.

"She's not scared?" Byron asks incongruously.

"Why would she be scared of Yasmin? She's scared of us, of what we are and what we could do." I reply absently, unable to tear my gaze from Sapphire. Suddenly a spray of bullets shoots from the deep forest at the end of the grounds, heading straight for Yasmin, Lara's scream echoes through the air as we race, knowing we aren't fast enough. The bullets fly with deadly precision towards Yasmin, Sappire's head launches up a mere split second before her body is infront of Serena, morphing into her wolf form just as the bullets hit, the smell of burning skin and fur permeates the air.

"Yasmin!" Lara screams, racing towards where Sapphire fell, tears of blood streaking her face as Byron and I follow suit, the rest of the house is quick on our heels. Huge bullet wounds litter Sapphire's wolf body, huddled over, protecting Yasmin, as Sapphire lifts her head her eyes are pure black, lips snarling, her gaze collides with mine for a mere moment before she disappears, heading towards the shooter, my heart leaps into my throat, do i go after her? Lara and Byron gather Yasmin into their arms, sobs wrack her body before her head darts up, scanning quickly.

"Where's Sapphire?" Her wavering voice asks, her gaze lands on me. Apart from a streak of mud on her cheek she looks completely unharmed.

"I'm going after her." I promise before taking off towards where Aeliana took Sapphire's body, hitting the forest i chase faster, scenting Sapphire, an earsplitting scream echoes through the skies, spurring me on faster. Reaching Aeliana just as she drops a young mans broken body to the floor, her breathing harsh and uneven, i stop, watching her as she shifts on her feet, her gaze colliding with mine, before i can blink she throws me feet away, crashing hard into a tree. Managing to capture her claws before they sink into my torso i fling her back, she lands hard but is on me again in an instant, suddenly she is grabbed roughly by Byron and Dylan, she roars loudly but Byron snaps a pair of silver magical cuffs around her wrists her body immediately shifts again going completely limp, Byron turns commanding Dylan to take her away. Launching to my feet i try to stop him only to be shackled by Byron's arms.
