Blinking awake i stretch, feeling Paul's naked body behind mine, my skin flushes as memories of last night come blurring back, we made love until the sun was on the horizon and he had to sleep, glancing at the clock i read the time, 8am, slipping out of the bed, Paul immobile and silent, slipping on some clothes, a pair of leggings and a long t-shirt i slide my shoes on. Part of me feels bad about having to do this but i can't have anyone else's death on my conscience, leaning down i press a soft kiss on his cheek, feeling the tears running down my cheeks, i wish we could have had more time together, he is the best thing that has happened to me which makes this decision easier. Leave now or watch him die protecting me.
Are you ready Aeliana?
no, but this needs to be done.
I'll fight as long as there is breath in my body
And i'll be here helping you all the way
Show time
I relinquish my body to Aeliana, the bones pop slightly but Aeliana holds my human shape as she looks back at Paul, regret streaks through our mind.
I think im going to miss him
me too Aeliana, me too
Will we be coming back?
If we defeat Eihort then i promise we will be back, but he may not forgive us.
We will earn it
Get moving, we need to get as far away as we can, we have until sundown.
That's all the encouragement she needs before she races to the window, sliding it open and stepping out onto the balcony, taking a breath she jumps over the railings, the fall terrifies me but i trust Aeliana, she lands softly and takes off, using her speed, the world whizzes by, a blur of colour, she leaps the massive fence and then we are off, running away from the only ones who have understood us and stood by us, we run all day, not stopping. Covering miles, running too fast for other people to see, just as the sun is sinking below the horizon the sky bursts a bright green light, Aeliana skids to a halt, her heart hammering, suddenly i am catapulted out of my mind, Aeliana hiding.
Aeliana?
He's free. I feel him coming. run!
Her terrified tone has my feet racing off, not knowing exactly where i am going but knowing i need to escape, the next town comes into view and i notice the church spire in the background.
Aeliana?
Run!
Can Eihort enter holy grounds?
I do not know. there was no churches back in his time
Cliche as it may be i race harder for the church, ignoring the stares of people as they are heading home for their evenings, i know how much of a mess i look but i can't stop. My muscles burn as i race faster, feeling prickling on the back of my neck, only a few more streets i think a moment before i am suddenly hit by something. I fly across the road, slamming into a wall, all breath knocked out of me, Aeliana disappears from my mind, i feel truly alone as a strange smog encases the town, out of the smog steps a huge mammoth of a man with glowing red eyes, even with the eyes he is still strangely handsome, almost compelling.
"My dear, I wish to thank you." Suddenly my back is against the wall again, his strong hand encases my throat, pulling me up until my feet dangle in the air, i claw at his arms which only seems to amuse him.
