"Serena, any luck?" I ask for the umpteenth time as she sits staring into the fire, her gaze gold as Alex hovers by her side, turning to glare at me.
"Back off Paul before i lock you in the dungeon! You're starting to piss me off." Alex growls getting in my face, my temper flares but i hold it back, knowing it's not Alex's fault that Sapphire vanished two days ago, i followed her scent to a small town hours away from here, before it merged with anothers scent before completely vanishing. Growling i storm to the bar, grabbing a bottle of whiskey and downing half the bottle before taking a breath, trying to control myself.
"Paul?" A soft voice asks, draining all the anger and frustration from me as i turn to look down at Yasmin who looks at me worried.
"Hey Yas, whats up?" I ask, leaning down to her height, her soft palm rests on my cheek.
"Did Sapphire get taken because of the man who attacked me?" Guilt laces her voice as tears spring to her eyes.
"No, gosh no, Sapphire left because she thought it was the right thing to do, something from her past is coming back and she wanted to protect us all." I reply as honestly as i can without scaring her too much.
"Yasmin, why are you up?" Lara asks, walking into the room, followed closely by Byron, she tries to look stern but the love in her eyes shows that Yasmin can do practically anything and get away with it.
"I couldn't sleep, I want to know Sapphire is safe." Lara and Byron pull Yasmin into a tight hug, i never thought id see Byron being a father figure but watching him now makes me smile, he's taken the role seriously and despite his mood swings hes really doing well.
"We will get her back, but you will have to stay with Max if we have to leave. Don't give him too much grief, hes much too young to get grey hairs." Lara reassures her, kissing the top of her head, looking up into Byron's face, concern from her gaze is mirrored in his.
"Off to bed with you little one." Byron half commands, kissing Yasmin on the top of her head, she looks up at both of them smiling, she glances back towards me, sadness swirling in her eyes.
"Goodnight Paul, i hope you find her."
"So do i Yas, but do not worry yourself." She nods before heading out, Byron and Lara turn to me and i almost shrink under their combined stares.
"Serena?" Alex's voice breaks the tension as our gazes fly to Serena who is now floating above the ground, her arms stretched wide, her eyes gold but glassy.
"She is trapped with Eihort, he has changed her, she is more dangerous than even he. A cave up a cliff, a clearing with a stone circle. Flames burning high. Demons brought to life. Terror." Serena whispers in a haunting tone before she collapses against Alex, her head lifting wearily.
"You might not be able to save her." Serena whispers sadly.
"I will do anything in my power to save her, do you know what direction she is in?"
"North, high cliffs. Find the clearing with the demon stone and you should be able to track her." Serena whispers, tired, her eyes fluttering shut. Racing away into the library i grab the huge map, unrolling it across the floor i look for the palace, finding it i follow the north line up, for miles there is nothing but then my finger hits a range of mountains, the Skye mountain range. Scrambling from the floor i race from the library, plowing into Dylan who grunts as we fall to the floor.
"Would you watch where you're going." He greets in annoyance as i jump to my feet, holding my hand out to help him up.
"I need to go. I know where Sapphire is." Before i can race off he grabs my arm tightly, his face stoic.
