Today's the day. UCLA women's soccer will be winning the ncaa championship for the second time. The only thing that stands in our way is Stanford university. One of our rival school. My girlfriends school. My name is y/n and I'm playing in the final against Sophia Smith, my girlfriend.

Soph and I met on the under 17 national team a few years ago, and we became best friends which turned into an actual relationship. It took us forever to confess our feelings. Our teammates had to force us to by playing dare or strip. It's really hard being in a long distance relationship, especially when we both go to different colleges, and I had started to get called up to national level although I haven't gotten my first cap yet.

Back to my main point, game day. When we got to Stanford's field, the were a ton of fans there. More then I've ever played for! We put on our warm up gear and I walk out with my best friend on the team, Ashley Sanchez. The best thing is that were both going to be at the nwsl draft along with Sophia! The two of us we're talking and decided that it would be best for us to take the next step in our playing career by going pro for the upcoming nwsl season.

I had heard that Kelley, Abby, Sam, Mal, Christen, and Vlatko had made the flight out from their states to see their colleges play, and Vlatko to scout of course. I even heard that they were going to get recognition or something like that.

Ash and I started passing the ball while discussing the game plan for today. I look over at the Stanford side and see Sophia walking out with her best friend, Katie Meyer. We make eye contact and I smile at her and she smiles back and jobs of to the game of rondos going on.

My teammates know that we're dating and swear that if we lost, it'll be my fault because I'll go easy on her since she's my girlfriend. Total opposite will happen. We know each other's tendencies on the field and I will most likely take advantage of that today.

Coach gave us a fast pregame talk about how proud he was of this team and how were gonna win. The same old crap your couch would probably tell you. We call bruins on three and jog out to our spots. I pass Sophia as I walk over to my spot, "Smith." I say and she grins, "L/n." She counters and I smile back at her.

I go to my right back position and wait for the whistle to be blown. One it does, the crowd goes wild. Stanford immediately starts to drive on the left and Soph comes running down the other side. I slowly back up until she reaches me and I stay right on her. They play a cross right of the bat. Bold. They whip it in and I'm first to the ball, clearing it out and pushing up since our goalkeeper, Teagan, is yelling at us.

At half time, it was a 0-0 tie. Not good huh? Coach tried to say a few things then handed it over to Ashley and Jessie Fleming since we were both voted captions for this season. They told us to keep our heads up and to keep on shooting our shots. We went out and took the other side of the field. I passed Soph again, but didn't say anything to her this time. "Damn is y/n giving her girlfriend the cold shoulder now?" Ashley asks and I grin, shaking my head, "I just wanna win." I tell her and jog to my spot.

0-0 end of the second half. I've been shutting Soph down and I think it's getting to her head. We're going into overtime and I'm nervous. Sometimes, my nerves can get the best of me and it's bad. Probably why I haven't gotten my first cap with the national team yet.

Our team emerges onto the pitch after a quick break in the locker room. Coach is beyond pissed, because this isn't the Bruins soccer way or something like that. If no one scores, we go into penalty kicks and that can get bad.

Sophia

My Stanford teammates all jog into the field at the same time as Cal. I wink at Y/n as I jog by and she flashes me her beautiful smile, followed by her getting swatted on the head by her best friend on the team, Ashley Sanchez. Ashley took her under her wrung last year before she got called up, and the rest is history.

I hear the whistle blow and we start to press high on them. Nothing was working though, because Y/n is just too damn good! She's always where she's supposed to be and always clears the ball. This is why she's on the national team. Nobody scores by the time both overtimes are over. Meaning, we had a pk shootout.

Our first shooter was Katie Macario, and she made hers. Next was Ashley Sanchez. Katie dove the right way, but missed by a few feet. I was up next for Stanford. I walk up to the referee and she hands me the ball, letting me place it to my liking. I back away from the ball and wait for the whistle to blow.

I was silently hoping Soph would do well and make her shot, even though I wanted us to win. I watch as Teagan missed and the ball hit the back of the net. I watch her jump into the air as her celebration. She looks at me as she jogs back to her spot and I silently nod my head. It was our turn. Kennedy jogged up to the spot.

I watch as Katie makes herself big and intimidating to Kennedy. But, Kennedy makes it. Stanford's next shooter was Naomi Girma, the caption for their team. She shot left and Teagan went left, saving the ball. The stadium stared roaring. Teagan started to celebrate and Naomi walked back to her team with a sad look on her face because she may have just costed her team the game. On the next one, Jessie made it, and then Stanford made theirs. It was all up to me now. I was the final shooter. If I make it, we win. If not, we go into another round of penalty kicks.

When that whistle blew, it was dead silent in the stadium. Everyone was holding their breath, hoping that Y/n L/n would make her shot and give UCLA their second championship.

I took one step, then another, then I start running at the ball. I plant my hips to the right and the ball fly's to the top left corner. Katie dove to the right and I swear it was so quiet, I could hear the ball hitting the back of the net. The stadium roars with thunderous applause as I jump in the air and sprint to my teammates. The first person to hug me is Ashley. "You did it Freshie!!" The forward yells at me. She calls me freshie because I was a freshman when we met and became best friends. It was a dog pile on me, and I had to force my teammates off of me so that I could breath. After celebrating with a few of my teammates, I noticed Sophia looking at me. "Hey Jess, I'll be right back..." I say as I trail off and walk away. I reach Sophia and we hug.

"Great game babe." She says and I grin. "You too." I say and she giggles. "You totally deserve this win. You even scored the winning penalty!" She exclaims and I smile even more. "Ugh I love you so much. I wish I could kiss you." I say and pout my lip. She just laughs and shakes her head. "Go celebrate with your teammates loser, I'll see you tomorrow." I say and she smiles. "Text me when you get home please, I know you when your drunk and it is not pretty." Sophia says and I frown. "You bully." I say and she giggles. "I love you, see you tomorrow." She says and I shrug my shoulders. "That depends how bad my hangover is." I say, sending my girlfriend into a laughing fit.

"I'll see you later babe." I say and jog back to my teammates. Ash and Jordan put me on her shoulder and carry me around around the stadium as the fans cheer for us. What a season it's been
