Lindsey

I sit in my room alone as I hesitate to FaceTime my girlfriend, y/n. She's out in Manchester for the England woman's national team camp, while I'm here in California for the us women's national team camp. I haven't seen her in a month because she went to visit her dad and siblings prior to camp.

We met while I was playing in France for PSG, then we lost connection when she was traded to the Chicago Red Stars in the NWSL. I was traded to Portland the year after and she was then traded as well a year later. The rest is history!

I bite my lip as I click the FaceTime button. We can never get our timing right because one of us is always at training or sleeping or eating or out with some friends. I see my face and I look really nervous, until I saw that a were connecting. My face brightens and I see her beautiful face.

"Hi." She says grinning, making me smile even more. "Hey you." I reply and she giggles. "What time is it in the states?" She asks and I look at the time for the first time in a while. "9 am. I have recovery in an hour since I had played in the game yesterday." I inform her and she nods. "Amazing job by the way." She coos and I smile and thank her. "What about you?" I ask and she sighs. "We had just gotten back from team training and I'm so tired." She says with her heavy english accent and falls back onto her bed.

"Oh sorry, I can call you later?" I ask and she shakes get head. "No no no, I wanna talk to you babe. I miss you and Fergie!!" She exclaims and I smile, thinking about our new French bulldog we got together. "When are you coming home?" I ask and she sighs and hesitates before speaking again. "I don't-know. I hope after our game against France, but I don't know." She says not fully confident in her answer. "Well you'll be back for our first game in Chicago, right?" I ask and she thinks, then nods her head yes.

"Yeah, I should be able to make it. And besides, why would I miss a thorns game? I'd miss you Ellie and Toby to much!" She exclaims. Y/n and Tobin have a mother/ daughter relationship sort of. Tobin will scold her, but the two do a lot together and y/n sure does look up to the american middy. Tobin promised her that she would stop megging y/n and only her! That is not fair if you tell me.

The time had flown by, and it was time for me to go. "Awe, do you have to go?" She asks and I giggle. "Yes y/n, I have recovery, and I have to be there for Mal, she needs a partner." I explain and she smiles. "Tell Mal Pal I say hello." She says and I nod. She's super close with all of my friends on the national team. Especially Sonnett. The two played in college together for two years. Sadly, she was traded to Orlando and I'm the most upset about it.

"I miss you." I coo and she pouts her lip. "I miss you more." She says and I sigh. "I'll see you soon." I say half lying and she nods. "Love you, bye." She says and hangs up. I lay there for a moment until I grab my towel and go to the pool for recovery.

Y/n

"Is she off?" My roommate, Rachel Daly asks and I nod my head. "So you excited to surprise her?" She asks and I smile. "I can't wait to see my baby." I gush and she smiles. Rachel is one of my best friends on the team, after Georgia of course. "When do you fly out again?" She says and I roll my eyes. "I've told you this like fifty times Rach, tomorrow at 9 am my flight leaves." I say and she remembers me telling her. I just laugh and go back onto my phone. We genuinely had a hard training today. Even Ellen was tired!

"Team dinner is in ten, wanna head down?" The defender asks and I slightly nod my head. "Yeah, let's go." I say and stand up, putting my crocs on. The only two jibits that I have on there are 9 and 11, our numbers.

When we arrive downstairs, Lucy had told us to sit on the kids end since we were relatively younger and the "elders" as we call them, had a headache. I took a seat next to Georgia and Nikita. "Hey girls." I say and everyone greets me. "So y/n and Rachel, how are those American girlfriends of yours?" Beth asks us trying to change the topic, and I smile and shake my head. "Instead of having an off day and then go home, I'm gonna superuser Lindsey tomorrow." I announce and I hear some people awe because it's cute. "What about your Daly?" Nikita asks and she grins. "I have to head home to Kristie soon because Dash's camp started at the beginning of the week." She says and everyone starts talking about their club teams. The majority of our team is on Manchester city for some odd reason.

That next morning, I got up early, and Rachel was awake to say goodbye to me. I make my way to the lobby and check out. I notice Lucy sitting in the lobby, sipping her coffee. Nothing out of the normal, 5 Am is normal for that women. She's insane!

I hug her goodbye and explain to her why I'm leaving. Lucy was a mentor on this team, but nothing like I have with Tobin. Tobin has been a mother to me ever since mine died. Nothing tragic, she just had me when she was super old.

It was a twenty minute ride to the airport, and it was a pain going through security. Especially because a ton of people wanted pictures. What can I say? Football is huge here! It's England for god sakes

I was twenty minutes early for my flight, which gave me enough time to get some Starbucks. I quickly order a fresh roast and as I'm walking back, my plane is being called. I quickly drank my coffee and then get onto the plane, getting ready for the 14 hour flight, here I come...

It took me a couple of hours to fall asleep because I had just had caffeine. Bad on my part. I did fall asleep though, which is good! I think I was asleep for the rest of the flight, because I was woken up by the flight attendant telling me that we were about to land. I check the time and it's 7 pm pacific time. I hate these fights, but it's worth it to play for my nation and with Lindsey, Tobin and Ellie in Portland.

We got off the plane and it was now 7:30. Sonnett had helped me set this up, because I couldn't do it all on my own. So, she was picking me up.

I was searching for the dumb blonde that I call my best friend, when I hear a scream and then weight onto my back. I knew exactly who it was. Emily Sonnett. I push her off of my back and pull her into a hug. "I missed you so much Sonnett. " I mumble and she tells with the same. "Come on, we have to get back before Lindsey realizes that I'm not at dinner. I got Rose and Sam to cover for me, but that will only last so long. " She says and grabs my hand, dragging me towards baggage claim.

I grab my bag with the lioness crest and my last name on it and smile. Never gets old. We head out to an uber and go to the hotel that the team is at. "I wanna surprise Tobin first and save the best for last." I tell the defender and she nods. "I'll text Tobin to go to the lobby and that I have a good surprise this time." She says and I giggle, "She still hasn't forgiven you for sending her and Christen down to the lobby together, has she?" I ask and she relies with a nope, making me laugh.

We pull up and the driver helped me get my bags and then drives off. I walk in with Sonnett and She hides me being the couch. "Sonnett this better be good." I hear the vice of Tobin. "Oh it is, trust me." She says and I stand up, coming into her view. She noticed me and freezes. "Y/n!!" She yells and runs to me, picking me up from the ground. "Hey Toby." I say while laughing. She sets me down and smiles. "We've missed you in Portland! You carry this team in goals scored you know." She says and I laugh. "Does Lindsey know your here?" She asks and I shake my head. "I wanted to surprise her." I say and she smiles. "What?" I ask and she shakes her head. "I missed your stupid accent and how cute you are with Lindsey." She coos and I blush. "Well, I missed your stupid american accent." I counter and the middy rolls her eyes.

"Come on, let's go surprise Lindsey. Team dinner is soon, you can surprise her there." Tobin says as she puts an arm around my shoulders. We walk into the team's dining room and she hides me on her side of the table. "Don't worry, Lindsey sits on the kids side." Tobin says reassuring me, and I laugh. People stay to fill in, and all of the veterans that sit on this side of the table keep quiet and don't say anything.

Finally, I hear the laughter of my girlfriend. "Nows your time." Tobin whispers and I stand behind Lindsey. Everyone's eyes shoot to me and her. "Hey Linds, do you miss Y/n?" Sonnett asks and she nods her head. "Sonnett is that even a question?" She asks and I smile. "You shouldn't miss me anymore love." I say and she freezes.

I watch her spin around in her chair and stand up, swiftly pulling me into her arms. We stay there for a while, and I can tell that everyone's recording us. We finally let go and she has a giant smile on her face. "No you didn't!!" She exclaims and I laugh. "Yes I did!" I counter and she hugs me again.

We let go and she's still smiling. "I love you y/n y/l/n." She mumbles into my ear and I grin. "I love you too Lindsey Horan." I whisper back. This was the life.
