CHAPTER 9

Finding the Entrance

The cave’s entrance is very wide but still, I can’t see the end.

“What did Sheryll said to you?” I asked while walking.

“She said that we shouldn’t get separated because if we get separated, we may never come back alive.”

        “Is that a threat?”

“No, a warning. But I don’t know what it means.”

“How does this thing work?” I asked pointing to the watch.

“It has buttons. Just click the buttons which have different functions. For example, a shield, a knife, or a phone. You can contact either me or Sheryll.”

“How about the others? Do they have like this?”

“There are only three, — you, me, and Sheryll. Sheryll is the one who created this. So if we need help, she can rescue us.”

I was thinking on how we can get outside safely before morning, when something got in my mind.

        “May I ask you something?”

        “About what?” he asked.

“About your family. Where are they?”

Touchy subject. His face was weary like he doesn’t want to talk about it.

        “I’m sorry.” I said, “I shouldn’t have asked.”

“No, it’s okay.” he said, “The truth is, I never met them. Sheryll told me after I was born, my parents got a dangerous mission and never came back. But Sheryll also said that my parents had their second child but the child was sent here at school. I’ve grown up here but still, I couldn’t find my brother or sister. Sheryll became my guardian and she took care of me. I always ask her about my parent’s other child but she said she don’t know. I wish I could find the child because I wanted to have a family.”

“Your parents are witches?” I asked.

“Yes, but very powerful witches. I don’t have any pictures of them and I don’t even know their names.” he said.

        “We’re the same.”

        “How?”

“I was just an adopted child of whom I thought was my mother. After I was born, Sheryll gave me to my mom and took care of me. But when I started to discover who I am, she admitted that I’m not her true daughter. Her real child died before I was given to her. She really took care of me even if I’m not her child. That’s why I owe a lot from her. Someday, I want to visit her.”

“We can visit her when we go outside the school. We’ll buy your weapon, right? After that, we’ll visit her.”

        “Thanks.” I told him.

        “For what?”

“For being always there for me. You became my brother when I got here. Even if I’m still searching for my real family, it’s like I’ve finally found what I’ve been looking for.”

        “You too.” he said.

        “What?”

“I mean thanks. You’ve became my sister. I never really had a true friend until I met you. You’re the only person that I’ve told my secrets. All the things that I’ve said to you, neither Sheryll nor Larius ever know that. I don’t know why I’m telling you these but I feel that I can trust you unlike others.”
