"So did you tell mother that you are going to go home with me?" Diana asked Minnie May who nodded.
Diana gave her a warm and kind smile, she really wished that Minnie May would understand.
But she still didn't knew that Jerry was a farm boy. And she had no idea how to break it to her.
"Minnie May?" Diana says trying to get her sisters attention as they made their way to school.
"Yes" she says innocently.
"You know how mother would like for me to marry someone who is....for lack of a better word rich, right?" She asked, making sure that her sister was following her trail of thoughts. Minnie May just nodded while tightening the grip on her sister's hand.
"Well...Jerry is...not like that" she say, stopping dead in her tracks, waiting for Minnie May to shout at her and tell her what a disgrace she was and such.
"I know" she simply responded. Diana was surprise by her response. She knew? How?
And as if she read her mind...
"I could see it in your eyes... you are too scared to tell mother and father about him for it to be a stupid rich man" she says and Diana slightly giggled. She was relieved that her sister didn't mind if Jerry was poor or not.
"Thank you for all your understanding, Minnie May" Diana says placing her own stash of cookies, which she was saving for lunch, in Minnie May's basket.
"Thank you!" She replied at the kind gesture excitedly while making her way in the smaller structure that was her school, while Diana got into the slightly bigger one that was her's.
"Diana!" Someone screamed. It didn't take Diana long to realize that it was her one and only bosom friend, Anne.
"Anne! I am so happy to see you" she squeals back while her friend engulfed her in a hug.
"You won't imagine what our classmates got up to this morning" and without further details, Anne led her bosom friend towards their school entrance, while leaving the milk in the lake.
The first thing Diana noticed was the big crowd of students, all packed together in front of an unfamiliar board.
"What is this?" Asked Diana to no one in particular.
"It's a confession board! When something happens between two classmates or one of the boys start noticing or courting a girl, it will all be noticed here. Isn't that just so romantic!?" Ruby asked excitedly while daydreaming of probabilities Moody or Gilbert. The situation has gotten a bit more complicated in Ruby's mind. She didn't know who to be infatuated with, was it Gilbert...or was it Moody.
"Not really, plus there is only one piece of paper" she says while making her way through the crowd to read the small slip of paper, her friends trailing closely behind.
"Billy Andrews walked Josie Pye home last week" she read out loud. Her, Anne, Ruby, and Tillie looked at each other, knowing exactly who had the idea of the board.
"Josie Pye" they all said together and they broke into laughter.
They then heard the first warning bell go off and they all started to head in the building, taking their coats off and hanging them near the entrance. Diana was doing so until she heard a deep voice behind her.
"Diana" the mysterious voice said. It didn't took Diana long to realize who it was.
"Charlie" she says while turning around to face the not so mysterious figure. Charlie has brown through the years. He was a good amount taller than Diana, then again, everyone was. His voice became deeper but still had that youthful tone to it.
"Happy to see you" he says, trying to make small talk.
"Happy to see you too, what a fine morning, isn't it?" Says Diana making her way towards her desk with Charlie by her side.
"It is indeed, it has been long since our last conversation" he stated.
"It has" Dian agreed, placing her slate of her desk turning back to face Charlie.
"Why the sudden interest?" She asked crossing her arms.
"No reason... just wanted to make sure the fair lady was doing just fine" he says with a smile as Diana laughed slightly.
"Well, fine thank you" she says.
"Class take a seat!" Ms. Stacy yelled trying to take everyone's attention.
"I will see you later, Diana, and have a delightful day" he says giving her a kind smile and made his way to his seat.
Charlie wasn't used to using big birds such as delightful or fair lady. Diana figures that it must have been to impress someone, could that someone be her? Well that thought didn't cross her mind.
In the moment, she was just scared of what Minnie May will say.
