(Dean's POV)

I was leaning against the cold, grimy window of the run-down bus that was taking my brother and I to our new home...The home that would be ours for the next two years...

I stared out, daydreaming, my eyes not seeing the landscape blur by in front of me. The greens and browns of the countryside smearing together as the bus trundled along.

I didn't really want to leave home...I'm not very good at looking after myself...let alone a kid brother.
But mum and dad were going through a messy divorce and wanted Sammy and me out of the way. What better time to start Uni....

New town, New friends, New life...A new start.

I realised I could faintly see my reflection in the window. My stupid face, with geeky Rayban glasses and annoying freckles spattered across my tanned cheeks.

I hated how I looked.

I sighed on the glass so my reflection would be clouded off by the mist from my breath.
I leant back from the glass and began doodling absentmindedly over the mist with my grubby index finger.

It disappeared after only a few seconds and I sighed again, turning to check on my little brother, who was asleep next to me. His head was rested on his small red backpack, and tears still stained his face.

He, like me, hadn't taken well to being bundled out of our family house and sent to a town a few states away...alone.
Luckily Sammy had finally fallen asleep, still crying silently, about an hour ago.
There were still two hours more to go.

I adjusted my body slightly, pushing my glasses up my nose, and leant back into the soft seat.
My new jeans were riding uncomfortably up my legs, but I was honestly too tired to care.
Closing my eyes, I snuggled into my soft jumper, hummed my favourite song under my breath "carry on my wayward son"...(classic rock was my guilty pleasure) and tried, using the song, to calm myself enough to maybe get some shut-eye.

It must have worked because, the next thing I knew, I was being shaken awake by Sammy, now wearing his backpack, telling me that we had arrived.

" Mmphff...yeah..yep...ok, OK, I'm awake Sammy, I'm getting up"

I stretched quickly, grabbed my own bag from under the seat and jumped up, thanking the driver, before leading Sam out of the bus and onto the pavement outside.

The wind whipped around us as we left the confines of the bus, and I wrapped my arms around myself, jumping up and down to stop the cold.
Sam's teeth chattered and I gripped him closer to me as I looked around this new environment.

It didn't look too bad...a bit dirty...a bit grey...but friendly-looking enough.

I smiled down, comfortingly, at my little brother, who was looking worriedly around.

" It'll be ok Sammy, I'm sure it will"

Lies...I wasn't even sure of it myself.

I patted his back, took a deep breath, and started forwards; towards the post office in front of us. In here would be the rest of our stuff, our parents having sent them ahead, so we wouldn't have to carry too much on the journey.

The small bell tinkled as we stepped nervously in though the door, causing the old woman at the desk to look up at us, smiling.

" Ah, you must be the Winchester boys!"

Her voice was warm and welcoming, but I was nervous , I had no idea how she knew who we were....
I must have looked confused because she added

"Your parents just called, said you would be coming through in a bit"

Answering my silent question.

The short, slightly plump woman then turned around and bustled behind her, then brought out a few brown cardboard boxes with our names stamped across them.

Dean and Sam Winchester.

I smiled, then I took two myself, handed the smallest to Sammy and stumbled out of the shop, calling a hasty

"Thanks"

Over my shoulder to the smiling woman behind the desk.

As me and Sammy walked out, I realised I couldn't see over my boxes. I stopped in the middle of the pavement and tried, awkwardly,to re-adjust them, without spilling the contents onto the pavement.

Sam, too short to see over his box, sadly didn't see me stop and bumped suddenly into the back of me.

I cursed under my breath as the two cardboard boxes toppled from my grasp and crashed onto the pavement in front of me.

"Oh, gosh...I'm sorry Dean, I didn't see you.."

Sammy apologised, bending down to pick the books and tapes that had spilled out of the top box.
I stooped down next him and started to help, when I suddenly noticed an extra pair of hands joining me and Sam's.

I looked up surprised, to see the last person I had expected.

It was a boy, about his age, wearing a baggy black and white jumper with weird patterns and shapes dotted all over it, skinny chinos, and scuffed red sketchers on his feet.
His messy, dark hair was framed by a black beanie, perched stylishly on his head and his eyes were covered by dark Rayban sunglasses. Above the glasses, I could see a flash of silver on his eyebrow, a ring?

"Hey"

He greeted me in a deep voice, smiling slightly at my bemused face.
I was nervous..okay..new people..let's go.

" errm..hi.."

I blushed, and the boy grinned at my embarrassment.

"Need some help with this?"

This boy...this hipster..wanted to help HIM...a little nerd from Kansas...well this was very new!

"Uurm..sure thanks"

I smiled hesitantly, and the boy bent down next to me and Sammy, who was eyeing him cautiously, and began gathering up the C-Ds.

It only took a minute with the three of us and, once we finished, he stood up carrying one of the boxes, slid his Raybans up onto his head and stared at me, smirking.

His eyes were mesmerising...they were the brightest blue...swirling and mysterious, like the ocean. Why would he hide them away behind those shades. It took me a few seconds before I could tear myself away; he was speaking.

"My names Cas by the way, it's short for Castiel, weird I know...anyway, nice to meet you!"

The boy, Cas, laughed and held his hand out towards me.
I just stared at it for a minute before realising he wanted me to shake it.
We shook and I finally managed to pluck up the courage speak.

" I'm err....my names Dean...just Dean...and this..this is my little brother, Sammy"

Cas grinned happily at me and Sam before asking

"So, where do you want this?"

I blanched, surely he wasn't offering to help them...

"Oh no..no, don't worry, we've got this, th-thanks anyway"

I blushed and pushed my glasses up my face again, embarrassed at my awkwardness.
Cas just smiled at me and shrugged, leaning over to hand me the box he was holding, before turning around and walking off, a slight swagger in his step.

He then seemed to hesitate for a moment, before turning around again and saying

"you'll be going to the uni here, I guess?"

I nodded, at a loss for words...why was this guy still speaking to him?

"Well, I'll see you round then, later..just-Dean...Sammy"

I laughed slightly, Sammy waved, and he gave us one last friendly smile, making his eyes crinkle cutely, before slipping the Raybans back over his eyes and walking away, humming as he went.
