Sophie got up with a gasp. Slowly, she sat up and took in her surroundings. Pristine jeweled mosaics, chandeliers that twinkled as they hit the light.

This wasn't Havenfield. This was....Everglen?

She rushed downstairs, past sheer silk curtains and enormous tapestries, colorful fountains bordered with braided gold, and saw a familiar glowing gate, a shimmering lake beyond.

This was definitely Everglen. But why was she here?

"Hey, Sophie," came a familiar voice from the stairs. Alden.

"Alden? Why am I here?"

"Because you're at home? Are you okay, Sophie?" He looked ready to send her to the Healing Center any moment now.

"Yeah! I'm- I'm fine, don't worry," she laughed and continued, "Just tired, that's all," she smiled, hoping that was enough to stop him from worrying.

Alden didn't look too convinced, but didn't ask any further, and turned to leave.

"Wait! What day is it?" she asked.

"Tuesday."

Sophie sighed. Foxfire. She shot a thanks at Alden before hurrying upstairs to where she woke up. Now that she wasn't in such a panic, she had time to think.

So she was adopted by Alden and Della. That certainly wasn't the case yesterday. Or the day before. Or ever.

She walked to a floor-length mirror that covered an entire wall- though that wasn't much compared to the rest of the room. Whatever part of the wall wasn't a mirror, was embedded with precious jewels- human ones, probably to help her feel more at home.

She took a good long look at herself. No injuries, no scars, nothing at all. Her hair was shinier than she'd ever seen it, and her skin glowed. Her eyes moved to the long iridescent gown she wore. It was adorned with smooth brown pearls that shone blue when they hit the light. She wondered if they were expensive.

She didn't have time to wonder though, as Della's voice rang through the hallway.

"Sophie, you're going to be late! Hurry and have some breakfast!"

She'd completely forgotten about Foxfire.

Sophie spotted her uniform hung on a delicate silver hook, already ironed and washed. She threw it on as fast as she could, and took one last look in the mirror before she left, heading straight for the doors of Everglen.

"Sophie, what about breakfast?"

"It's okay, I'm not that hungry anyway," She said, though it was a lie. She was very hungry, but the tall bejeweled walls were starting to feel suffocating, and she needed to get out.

Sophie leaped to Foxfire and found her locker. It was the same as she'd last seen it, thank goodness. At least something stayed the same.

She started to make her way to her telepathy classroom, only to be stopped by a boy a lot taller than she was.

"Look who it is," he drawled, "The talentless science experiment!"

A crowd was starting to gather now, and they all laughed at the boy's statement.
