"Have I informed you about visiting a certain person's Manor?" Crusch-san spoke while we rode away from the place we have just stopped to sight see in.
"I . . . have no idea. Whose manor is it?" I asked.
She then looked at me in the eye, while resting her elbow on the side of the window in the carriage. "Have you ever heard of Roswaal?"
.....Roswaal?
"No, though the name sounds familiar to me, I have no idea of who that person is." I had the strong urge to smack my head as soon as I said those words. With my tone and my choice of words, it is undoubtly disrespectful especially since I am no lower than the ranking of a servant in all honesty. It is pure luck that Crusch-san let me under her roof as a guest.
I softly face-palmed. Confused of what I may have been doing, the lady squinted her eyes. "I am sorry. My choice of words and the way I have said it must have offended you." I finally said after a few moments.
Crusch-san only hummed. It left me thinking by myself since I received no word from her since that, which made me feel guilty, until she spoke again after a few minutes.
"The master of the manor we are about to visit is someone who could give us a lead to where we can find a woman named Rem."
"... what?" They do not know a person named Rem? But.... she works with her as one of the police forces....
"You mutter her name everytime you sleep. It intrigues me, honestly, as to why and what and how did this girl seem to snatch your heart." Crusch-san said, almost in a teasing manner.
I chuckled, until I realized what she had said in the last part. "S-s-s-s-snatched my heart? No it's not like that---" seriously, what may have caused her to think that way??
"Y/N, there is no real need to hide it from me. Partly since I can tell you are lying when you said that's not it, but because you can trust me." she beamed at me, and somehow I felt my heart race with that small smile of hers, but it was gone and back into a thin line on her lips. As my heart is the same, it stopped beating fast and came back to its original beat.
I nodded, as I was out of words to give.
we let the time pass while travelling.
The carriage stopped when it was almost night already, in front of a manor with big front doors. Almost like a palace, but I bet the palace of royalties in this world would be more extravagant and guarded with knights. Crusch-san stood in front of the door while I stood behind her. Then, she muttered words that I heard, but slipped off my mind as if it only entered my ear to get out through my other ear. I was thinking, what could be the purpose of going here? Not like I had that much complaints anyway, but it just.... makes me think.
Come to think of it, haven't Emilia-san mentioned the blonde spirit that is fondly close to Puck lives here, in a library that changes location itself? Beatrice was her name, if I remember it correctly.
The instant Crusch-san said words, a maid with pink hair that seemed to extend to her elbows peeked her head out the door before opening it widely, welcoming Crusch-san with a soft smile. I passed through the door too, following after Crusch-san, when I noticed that there is a bump on the maid's tummy. "First trimester?" I unconsciously asked. She was taken aback, but still gave a small smile when she replied to me with a hum and a nod. It seems she is really happy and contented, she must have married the person she loves the most.
"Oh, Y/N." Crusch-san called, and the maid waved her hand inside, gesturing that I go inside now, to the greenhead's side. I smiled and said thank you, then jogged to Crusch-san.
"You seem to have been already acquainted with Ram just now," she gave a low chuckle.
"Oh, so Ram is her name." I put my hand on my chin, looking upwards the tall ceilings of the manor while smiling to myself. "That lady seems to be so happy with her life, she must have married a wonderful guy that she loves. Now she's expecting, and I can't help but also feel happy for her somehow, even if we're not related at all." I let my thoughts spill.
The commander beside me hummed in agreement. "She is happy, so is the father of her child, her lover."
I looked at her with a confused expression. "She's not yet married to her lover?"
"Not yet, at least." she gave me an assuring gaze, as if sensing that I was slightly concerned for the maid. "Roswaal is planning on marrying Ram once he's done in politics. After that, I do not know what he plans to do but it seems he would do everything to make Ram happy too, so be at ease." she added.
At the end of the hallway, we are met with another door leading to the guest room. It is where Roswaal was to meet us, it seems. The moment we entered, a man stood up from his seat. I guessed he was Rowaal, and I guessed right.
"You are Y/N! It is a pleasure to meet you." he gave me a handshake after giving his greetings to Crusch-san.
"Oh, no. The pleasure is all mine," I said in reply.
We all sat and is served tea moments later, and it was Ram who served them at our table. With a worrying and loving tone, Roswaal held Ram's hands and told her to rest since it's almost 8 pm. Ram chuckled, shook her head and assured the man she will be retiring to bed after finishing one last task. Roswaal sighed and let her go, reminding her to be careful and told her goodnight.
It made me soft inside, seeing a couple so happy with their lives, though it kinda made me uncomfortable haha. So lovey-dovey.
"You seem to be looking for something too, Y/N-kun." Roswaal commented after taking a sip from his tea. I gave him a confused look. "What do you mean?" I asked.
"Well, I meant you were not only looking for someone, but for something too. Could be an object, an insight, or an answer to your question." he shrugged.
Well that hit right on the mark.
"Perhaps you would be willing to find a certain room in this manor? If you do, and find a great spirit who lives with me here since forever, you might find an answer to that."
Weird. I thought as I roamed among the hallways of this manor, letting my feet take me somewhere where I can find this great spirit. I said yes to the offer, since it's obvious I can't say no.
Minutes passed and I found myself stopping in front of a door. Taking a deep breath, I twisted the doorknob and entered the room.
It looked like a library. And a room of a certain blonde I have heard off, maybe.
Just when I took a look around, a heavy book got thrown on my face, followed by a frustrated hiss by none other than the great spirit itself.
"Who dares to intrude in my chambers at this time?!" Beatrice growled angrily at me.
