Just when you think it's over it's back to square one.
*Note: I have gone off the original The Last Ship recipe and included Slattery's personal life in the story as well as a romance twist. Some The Last Ship fans might not like this change. Some o...

Julia Slattery was sitting on a beach chair on the front lawn of her father's home, with Alice, Claudia McLeod's oldest daughter, sipping on a glass of sweet tea. They watched as Connor, Julia's husband and her father worked on the engine of her Volkswagen Bug that stood parked in the driveway behind her father's SUV. "What's wrong with your car?" Alice asked curiously.
"She seems to be lagging a little lately."
"Guess it's time for a new car," Alice remarked.
Julia frowned. "A new car? Never. Once she's fixed she will be as good as new."
"Guess so."
Connor looked up at Julia and smiled before he gave her a thumbs up and she gave him a thumbs up in return. "My man would have made a great chang. He surely knows how to work the pistons."
Alice looked at Julia sideways and gave a mischievous smirk. "He's got the tools and he knows how to use it."
"Hey, hands off my man. Don't get any ideas."
"Who said I have ideas?"
"I'm not saying anything."
Mike pulled the oil stick from the engine to look at it and gave a knowing sigh. "Connor."
Connor was at the front of the car looking through his spanners for the right sized one to turn lose the bolts and nuts that held together the top and the block. "Admiral."
He walked up to Mike who was standing with the oil stick in his hands. "You can stop calling me admiral, Connor. I'm your father in law. She needs an oil change."
"I figured."
Mike put the oil stick back and turned his head to look at Julia. "When last did you have an oil change done on your car?"
"At her last service," Julia replied.
"When was that?"
"About six months ago."
"Are you sure they did an oil change?" Mike asked with suspicion.
"I paid for one."
"You know what? Connor and I will service her from now on." Mike stood up straight and gave the car a gentle tap on the roof. "I think they made you pay for an oil change and never did one. You mind if I take her for a quick spin around the base?"
"Sure, if you can drive stick shift dad."
Mike gave a skewed smile. "Well it's been a while but I think I still have what it takes. Connor are you coming with?"
"No, I'll pass."
Mike started the car and reversed out of the driveway while Julia, Alice and Connor looked on. At the gate he stopped the car and one of the officers walked up to him with a big smile on his face admiring the car. "Admiral Slattery, good afternoon to you."
