Later in the day Claudia was busy vacuuming the guest room moving around the furniture. Alice's curiosity got the better of her and she went to stand in the door way. "Mom, relax."
Not expecting Alice to sneak up to her from behind she had a fright and swiftly turned around. "Geez, Alice! You gave me a fright."
"Mike is fine. I'm pretty sure about it. It's no need to get yourself worked up over it and clean the house. Leave it."
"It's not that. You're grandmother is coming tomorrow morning."
Alice entered the room and helped her mother put new sheet and linen on the bed. "Okay."
"It needs to be perfect. Nothing can be out of place."
"Why do you always get so stressed out when grandmother comes to visit? Is it Mike or what?"
"You and I both know she's not too thrilled I'm in a relationship with a navy seal."
"But why? He does a pretty decent job of taking care of us."
"Tell your grandmother that. He's not a lawyer or a doctor."

The following morning Alice and Amy were standing outside on the front porch waiting for their grandmother to get out of the cab. She was dressed to the nines in a ruby red suit and high heels and a pair of Jacky O sunglasses covering her eyes. They walked closer and watched as she removed a small suitcase from the cab. She then turned to look at them and smiled.
"Good morning grandma," Alice greeted her.
"Oh my goodness. Look at you two. You're both so pretty."
"Thank you grandma," Amy replied with a faint smile.
"Where's your mother?"
"She's inside the house. Busy making snacks for when you arrive," Alice replied.
"Oh but let's head inside then. What are we waiting for?"
They entered the kitchen and Claudia sat down at the table exhausted. "Good morning Claudia."
"Good morning mom."
"You don't look too happy honey."
"She's just tired grandma. She spring cleaned the entire house yesterday," Alice said in her mother's defense.
"And I didn't sleep too well."
Isabella scanned the kitchen looking at every little detail like a hawk. "Oh but the house looks fine. It's lovely. You must be happy they didn't stick you with a bigger one with Mike being and admiral and all."
"Yeah."
"Is everything alright between you and Mike?"
"Yes. We're fine. I just got some bad news yesterday. Mike's ship was sunk off the coast off Syria."
