My eyes squint open and I check my alarm clock. 5:58. I turn my head only to see a shirtless Richie, sitting up, holding my secret journal that I write in every night.
I jolt up, "Richie why the fuck are you reading that?!" I snatch the book from his grip. He defends himself, "It was just on your chest and I wanted to see what it was."
My face begins to get bright red. He clearly notices and feels guilty.
"I only read the first two pages, Edds. I'm sorry." He frowns.
As heated as I am, his apologetic look makes me feel bad for getting angry.
I sigh and put it back inside my pillowcase, "It's fine, Richie. Just, please don't call me Edds."
He perks up, "Why? That's what I call you. It's my nickname for you." I argue, "No one calls me that. Or 'Eddie spaghetti' for that matter." "Well, then they're my special names for you." He says clearly not understanding what I mean by "don't call me that."
"Is it only Tuesday?" He groans. I chuckle, "It's only the second day of school. Hate to break it to you, but if you're already tired of it, the next 179 days are going to be pretty rough!"
"Okay but why does it have to start so early? And why does class have to be so Goddamn long. I can't take it, it makes my brain feel like I'm going to explode! And I don't even pay attention! I can't even begin to imagine how stressful it must be for the dorks who actually try!" He rants.
"Well as a dork who actually tries, it is stressful. But you get used to it. It's all about time management, and no procrastination." I explain.
"Well I'm incapable of doing that."
"I don't think you're incapable, I think you're just lazy."
He continues to lay in my bed, as I gather all of my things I will be needing for my day.
"Eddie!" I hear my mom call out as footsteps get closer and closer.
"Fuck!" I yell.
"What's wrong?" Richie asks.
"Just, grab your bag and your shirt and go into my closet. Now!" I command.
He does as told, luckily before my mom enters my room.
"Hi sweetie, are you ready for school?"
"Um, yeah. I am. But ma' is it cool if I walk to school today?" I ask trying to avoid a problem we'd have if she says no.
"I don't see why not. Just be careful. And text me when you get to school!" She instructs.
I thank her and she leaves my room, and heads into hers across the hall.
"Coast is clear!" I announce allowing Richie to come out.
He begins, "Okay, a few questions." "Make them quick, Richie." I sigh.
"One, why couldn't you just tell your mother I spent the night?"
"It's easier this way. Trust me. Now I'm going to go to the bathroom to get changed-"
"I wasn't done with my questions, Edds."
"Don't call me that. And you get one more question. So make it wise."
"Wow, one more question. I'm going to have to make it quite intriguing since I only get one."
"I suppose so, Rich."
"And I only get one more question?"
"Well now you don't. Good final question."
"Wait, what! No! Come on, you know that wasn't my real final question!"
