The skepticism and nerves radiate off of my skin causing me to unintentionally gravitate towards Richie. The rest of the Losers decided that we would all be going to Karaoke Klub, a twenty one and over karaoke bar. Everyone had fake IDs except for me, so Richie took me to a sketchy college dropouts house, whose name was Zeke. Zeke set me up with one for sixty dollars, which Richie said was a good deal. Richie probably got a special discount of some sort just for simply being him.
I've never owned one so when it comes to showing the bouncer mine I was quite nervous. We walked in a semi-straight line, Mike being the leader since he appeared the oldest. Richie was behind me and the last in line. My heart pulsated to no extent, I look so small. I'm not irregularly tall or buff like the others. I had no facial hair and I wasn't a girl, my chances of getting in were far slimmer than the rest. Richie somehow senses my nerves, and I feel him place a hand on my shoulder which stabilizes me slightly.
"Identification?" The tall, heavy bouncer asks.
I face my card to him and he grabs it out of my hand. He shines his flashlight from my ID, to my face, back to my ID. I try my hardest to look confident, Richie told me confidence was key. Before he realizes that I'm just a kid, Richie sticks his arm out and shoves his own ID in the bouncers face.
"Alright, you two can head in."
We made our way to a booth right by the stage where a middle aged couple sang Hooked on a Feeling. Everyone was so much older, more mature than us high school kids. We all tried dressing the part though. Me and the other guys, aside from Richie, wore nice polos and dark jeans. Richie couldn't afford to go home and get a nicer outfit, so he wore the same jeans and Queen shirt he entered my house in and paired it with a light pink jacket he purchased from GoodWill. Beverly wore a very mature, emerald cocktail dress that probably was her mothers at one point. A woman asks for our orders, but I don't know what to get so I just copy Richie. We sit and wait for our mojito's.
"Bill and Bev, you better be singing a duet tonight!" Mike smiles.
Bev laughs, "Oh, I don't know. You know it takes me a shit ton of liquor until I can actually get up there. It's packed tonight, I need to be shit faced!"
"S-same here," Bill agrees."What about you Stan, do you sing?" I ask.
"Fuck no!" Stan shakes his head.
Ben adds, "Stanley is the only one of us who has never sang."
I question, "Why not?
"I can't sing so what's the point in humiliating myself up there?" He informs me.
"Because it's fun dickwad!" Richie says, punching Stanley's shoulder.
Beverly beams, "Richie is the best performer, you're going to be in complete shock Eddie!"
I try to contain my giggle, "I bet I will be!"Richie and I exchange looks and sip on our cocktails. The night moves quickly and the drinks don't stop themselves from coming. There isn't a single sober person, which isn't too big of a deal since everyone ubered here. It took a while of convincing before I got Richie to agree on ubering since he was fixated on driving.
"Baby, we have to sing! Come on please!" Bev yells, carrying the please for nearly ten seconds. While tugging on Bill's sleeve he laughs, "What song are we singing?"
Her eyes go wide and her mouth shoots open as large as possible.
"I like you so much right now!" She screams, giving him a kiss. They wobble onto the stage, and after searching through the song list for a few seconds decide on the iconic duet ballad, Time of my Life. Watching them sing was fantastic, hilarious even. Bill couldn't hit all of the low notes perfectly so he put on a funny voice in exchange. Beverly was really into the performance, taking his hand and dancing theatrically. She tilts back, spins, and sways with such a natural flow which makes the audience cheer. Of course, all of us scream the loudest, standing up and getting rowdy for our friends. Once the song reaches its end they kiss and the crowd goes wild.
