~Lilith's POV~

I've been walking for two hours and the people start waking up. I have now arrived at the end of the town. Seeing the bakery and the butcher open I decide to buy some food for later on the day.

Using the low frequency of my voice I greet the baker as I open the door.

"Good day, young man. What can it be?" The baker asks.

"I need some cornbread which has a long shelf life." I politely reply.

"You're in luck. We just made a bread which meets your requirements." He says as he grabs the bread from the shelf. "Whole or half?"

"Whole." I answer. I pay the baker for the bread and say my goodbyes.

As I enter the butchery the smell of meat fills my nose. "Good morning." I greet.

"Good morning fella, you're early." He greets back.

"Long day ahead, need to head to the city on foot." I reply. "Could I have 500 grams of beef?"

"Let me guess, you want to participate in the challenges of the palace." He scans my body and starts measuring the meat.

"Yes, that's right." I answer. The butcher starts laughing.

"Boy, I don't want to ruin your dreams, but I've seen the guards with my own eyes and they are all a lot bigger than you."

"But I am quicker." I smirk. The laughter from the butcher dies down.

I am about 1.75 meters which is a lot taller than most women, but the average height of the Royal Guards is 1.83 meters.

"Have you've been in the palace before?" The butcher asks. "There are a lot of knights with more experience then you."

"I have not," I lie. "but I do have a lot of experience."

The butcher wraps the meat. "My son is going to deliver meat to the palace, you could ride along?"

"If that is possible." I say not wanting to be a burden. I lay down some money.

"Then it's settled." He hands me the packaged meat. "I put in a little extra, you look like you need it."

"Thank you, you're far too kind."

"I remember the time I had such big dreams." he stares into the distance. "If you make the cut, make sure you come visit me." He smiles. "Nathan, you've got a hitchhiker!" he yells to the back.

A man around the age of 22 walk through the opening. "Alright, just finished packaging the meat." He says to his father. He then turns to me. "Guess you're the hitchhiker?"

"That's me." I reply with a smile. Then I realize I need to act more like a manly man, so I drop my smile.

"I see ya outside, be right there." And he walks back though the opening.

"Thank you for everything, and hopefully the next time I see you I am wearing the garments of a Royal Guard." I say to the butcher.

"I hope so kid."

I turn around and wait outside.

"climb in." Nathan voice says behind me. I turn and see a covered wagon pulled by two horses. I the front there is a little seat on which Nathan sits. He pats the seat next to him.

I climb in an take the seat next to him. "I'm Damon." I introduce myself and held up my hand.

"I'm Nathan." He replies while shaking my hand. He then returns and directs the horses to move.
