"Zak, you need to be more careful."

Zak sat on the edge of the bathtub, looking disgruntled. "I'm an adult, I can do what I want to!"

"All the same, you should look where you're putting your feet when climbing trees. You could've broken a bone or something!"

Zak pouted, then hissed in pain as Darryl pressed the wet cloth in his hand against the cut on Zak's knee.

Darryl sighed. "Sorry, Zak, I know it hurts. But you need to let me clean it so that it heals properly."

Zak groaned a little in frustration, but tried to stay still.

Once all the visible grime had been cleaned off, Darryl put the dirty rag in the sink and opened a bottle of hydrogen peroxide. "This will sting for a minute, so brace yourself," he warned.

As the liquid hit the cut and foamed up, Zak flinched and tried to pull away from Darryl, but the older man held his leg firmly in place. "I'm almost done, don't worry."

He set the disinfectant aside and opened a large bandage, which he carefully positioned so that it was covering the wound completely. He smiled at Zak. "There we go! As long as you don't peel the band-aid up or anything, it should heal nicely."

"Give it a kiss, too."

"Okay- wait, what?! No, I'm not going to kiss it!"

"Kiss it to make it feel better!" Zak demanded.

"No! Oh my goodness, Zak, you're not a toddler! You don't need a kiss to feel better!"

"JUST KISS IT!" he insisted.

Darryl sighed and gave in. "Mwah," he vocalized as he pressed his lips to the bandage on Zak's knee. "There, happy now?" he asked, disgruntled, cheeks slightly pink.

"Yeah, I'm good," Zak replied, grinning.

Darryl left the bathroom, leaving Zak alone. Once he was out of sight, the short boy smiled softly and blushed as he touched the spot Darryl had kissed, hoping that one day he might be able to feel the man's lips on his.
